The Hills leave their staid Methodist church in favor of a megachurch after a different family sits in their favorite pew.
Tropes:
- Blackmail: How Hank manages to get Stroup to let the Hills stay in their pew from here on out. He even threatens to convince his pals to leave First Arlen Methodist and join the Megachurch. Even before then, the Hills leaving causes enough controversy that she is forced to, amongst other changes, turn the back rows into smoking rows and take an overly-affectionate hug from Bill to keep anyone else from leaving. Dale outright calls their departure the best thing that could've happened.
- Ignored Epiphany: Even when he's had enough of the Megachurch, Hank just can't bring himself to admit to Reverend Stroup that he was wrong.
- Jerkass Has a Point: Despite Luanne being incredibly jackass-y and hypocritical regarding Lucky's lack of church-going, she ultimately is right that Hank was disloyal to Stroup and First Arlen Methodist. In Hank's defense, Rev Stroup was being rather dickish in shamelessly catering to the new family, and showed her pettiness by posting a message decrying "assigned seating" on the church billboard.
- Never My Fault: Hank and Peggy absolutely refuse to let the whole pew thing slide and insist that Stroup is to blame for not letting their signature pew be only for the Hills when Luanne calls them disloyal.
