Dukey, Susan and Mary are once more following the Wizard Lad series via digital preview to Johnny's chagrin. Not wanting to wait for the full book release, they coerce Johnny to go back into the world via their VR machine to find out how Wizard Lad will ask a fellow student named Fiore to an upcoming dance. But some unexpected complications pop up along the way.
Tropes
- Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better: Weaponized by Johnny in the climax against Fiore. He knows he can't take her while she has the Dragon Sword, so he proclaims he can use his wand to make spells to counter her power, to which she uses her sword to try and counter his spells. It comes to a head when he shrinks himself to hide from her. She does so as well... and is too small to pick up the sword. Dukey promptly grabs the sword and uses it to regrow Johnny, winning the day.
- Beam-O-War: Johnny and Fiore get into one once he unwittingly hands over the dragon sword to her. He almost loses but Sally arrives to help even the odds.
- Evil All Along: Fiore, who reveals herself to be Moldywart's daughter and takes up the mantle as the book's villain since Moldywort turned good.
- Continuity Nod: The Johnny Coupons return from the first series in which the sisters use them to force Johnny to continue investigating how the story will go.
- Flaming Hair: Fiore's hair flares up once she gets the dragon sword from Johnny.
- I'm a Humanitarian: Subverted, the snake guardian is said to eat any wizard that comes after the sword. But when she smells Johnny's flying cupcake, she admits she's tired of eating wizards. Johnny's more than happy to trade the cupcake for the sword.
- Love Interest: Sally to Johnny's character, Wizard Lad. He's not keen on the idea of romance and nearly freaks out when she tries to kiss him.
- Scaled Up: When Johnny finds the dragon sword, he initially thinks it's stuck in a rock only for it to be revealed as a giant snake that was wrapped around it.
- Tsundere: Sally to Johnny, or rather his character Wizard Lad. It's obvious she wants to be asked to the dance by him and jealous he's asking Fiore. Begrudgingly helping him when he needs directions to the dragon sword.
- You Are Grounded!: Moldywart attempts to do this to Fiore when she returns with the sword but she shrinks him to small size. When she's defeated, he carts her off with an Ear Ache claiming if she doesn't stop, he'll send her to magic reform school.
