"Happy birthday, Felix!"

Public Enemies Number One and Two is the 121st episode of the Joe Oriolo's made-for-TV Felix the Cat cartoons, distributed by Trans-Lux and directed by Joe Oriolo.

It's a stormy night, while Felix is relaxing with a nice book. He hears the doors and windows shutters blowing open, and then closes out to close them. Once he's done with that, he rushes back in, to relax with his book, and turn on the TV, where he sees and hears an announcer mention two public enemies. One short with a mustache, the other big and tall. Felix then dismisses it, but it doesn't take long to suspect the Professor and Rock, who then actually do show up. Felix eavesdrops on their plan, then runs to the next room, locking the door to the one thayt he'd previously been in. The two usual suspects, most surprisingly, make their way in, and have now taken their place in Felix's TV living room!

Figuring that he can go to his upstairs bedroom to get the bag, after hearing the two crooks, Felix travels thru the vent to the furnace, but then gets trapped there. Rock Bottom suggests that they turn on the heat, literally, to warm up, before knowing that Felix is up there. Rock turns the heat WAY up, with the cat inside, suddenly realizing that they turned on the heat as part one ends.

Part two concludes with Felix still up there, and finally, escaping to the attic, seeing the grate underneath to his bedroom. Problem is:it's locked. Meanwhile, The Professor and Rock by now are in there. They see ther bag. Enthused by this, they look at it. Rock tries it out, but the Professor reminds him that "Only Felix knows the secret to the bag", which Rock turns into a magnet and then a arm that opens the attic, and frees Felix, who then drops down. He turns to the two and tells them, "Okay. You've got m. NOW what?" Rock Bottom just reassures our hero that the two just want to be friends. Felix, understandably, stll thinks that they're the ones who are wanted by the FBI, where the dog turns on the TV, only to hear the very same announcer from the beginning announce two other guys, who HAVE been identified as the crooks. Felix then continues with why they are both there, where the Professor points that they';sve broguht him a cake, but Rock bottom points there;s no table. Felix the turns his bag into a table, where suddenly Poindexter and even Martin the Martian (last seen in "The Super Rocket Formula") burst in, then even The Master Cylinder, but not General Clang, oddly, burst in. Then they all wish the felix happy birthday (it had been his 40th in 1959, but Felix seems not a day older than 21..) Felix suddenly then brightens and then remembers:"I'd forgotten all about it", and have their party. "Thanks Pals!"

Tropes:

  • Birthday Episode: The episode is revealed to be this at the end—despite what Felix thinks, Professor and Rock Bottom aren't out to do crimes that day, but meant to throw a surprise party for Felix, who had forgotten it was his birthday. Poindexter, Martin the Martian and even the Master Cylinder join in for the party.
  • Deranged Animation: You can tell from such as the end of part one, where he's in the furnae, and upon finding out, does the expect take, for instance, and the open. A clear Jim Tyer animation.
  • Go-Karting with Bowser: Professor, Rock Bottom and even Master Cylinder celebrate Felix's birthday party at the end. It's probably the only time where we don't see Master Cylinder committing or planning anything evil.
  • Oh, Crap!: Felix when he sees the heat has been turned up while trapped inside the furnace.
