Jane is crushing hard on Rogelio's overeager costar Fabian. Having finished her novel, she now has to deal with the marketing people who want to use her life story to their advantage. In keeping with the police's demands regarding the Scott investigation, Petra brings Anezka back to the hotel just as Luisa and "Eileen" (actually Rose) are back in town.
Tropes:
- As Himself: Maria Semple as the moderator of the book fair panel.
- Ascended Fanboy: Fabian greatly looks up to Rogelio and is thrilled to be working with him.
- Shout-Out: Rogelio worries that Fabian is sabotaging him à la All About Eve.Rogelio: Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy afternoon.
- Technologically Blind Elders: Jorge hasn't been replying to Alba because he has no idea how to text. Alba also doesn't understand what selfies or Snapchat are.
- Walking Shirtless Scene: Fabian is near-constantly shirtless when not in costume, to drive home that he's a lust object for Jane and a source of insecurity for Rogelio.
- Waterfall Shower: A telenovela staple, as Jane and her family watch a makeout scene under a waterfall at the beginning of the episode. Later Alba imagines Jorge under one, and Fabian mentions having to do several shirtless scenes in different works under a waterfall. Fabian later imagines Jane under one. When Fabian kisses Jane outside her house it seems like it's going to head here, but then it turns out the sprinklers were just on a timer.
