Recap / Hamster & Gretel S1E30 "The Litigator vs. The Luchador"

Go To

Carolina's sister, Melissa (who works as a lawyer) comes to visit, but has to cut the visit short when she has to go to a "fancy lawyer meeting". Carolina finds this suspicious, as she and Dave follow her to find out what's going on. Meanwhile, Kevin, Gretel and Hamster find out El Luchador has escaped prison, and infiltrate the Professional League of Wretsling's Tag Team Championship match to stop him.

Tropes:

  • Dangerous Forbidden Technique: El Luchador's signature move is to bend the opponent's arm back at a 42 degree angle, which is stated to have been banned and part of the reason El Luchador is banned from wrestling.
  • Full-Name Ultimatum: Carolina calls her sister "Melissa Corrina Josefina Gomez" after finding out about her career as a pro-wrestler.
  • Fun with Acronyms: Professional League of Wrestling makes "PLOW".
  • The Guards Must Be Crazy:
    • El Luchador is able to subdue the rookie guarding him (who keeps saying that it's his first day) by luring him inside his cell to teach him how to whistle.
    • The ticket taker at the PLOW arena won't let Kevin and Gretel in without a ticket, and the event is sold out. However, he lets Kevin in easily when he claims to be running a podcast; he refuses to let Gretel in for being a minor, but lets her in easily after she puts on an obvious Totem Pole Trench. Later, when Carolina and Dave want to go in, the ticket taker refuses until Carolina mentions that she's a nurse.
  • Kayfabe: Seeing a commercial on the Professional League of Wrestling, an uninterested Kevin states that pro-wrestling is so fake. Hamster comments to not let Fred hear that, who is revealed to be a huge fan.
  • Living a Double Life: Melissa is actually a pro-wrestler, the titular Litigator. She prefers this over her job as a lawyer, but hides this side because she doesn't want to disappoint her family, especially her big sister Carolina (who works as a nurse).
  • Not So Stoic: Turns out Fred is huge fan of pro-wrestling.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Gretel is not allowed to enter the PLOW arena because she isn't 13 yet. To bypass this, Gretel pulls a Totem Pole Trench and gets a hat, sunglasses and a trenchcoat, and pretends she's a middle-aged man (using her ability to float to pull off the tall appearance). Hamster acts as the beard.
  • Shout-Out: After finding a fedora in the clothing store Fancy Pants, Dave then finds a statue of a platypus. As he tries to put the hat on the statue, Carolina states he should stop "bucking for a crossover", implying she's well aware of which platypus Dave is referencing. Later, Gretel uses furniture from Toni with an I's Discount Furniture Store.
