An old Wesen feud has stepped up a notch as Blutbaden are killed in strange circumstances. With violence threatening to erupt, Nick must tread very carefully to ensure that justice is served without war breaking.
This episode provides examples of:
- Call-Back: Nick is still experiencing zombified moments where it seems the Cracher-Mortel venom is causing a relapse.
- Continuity Nod: The Black Despair mushroom hails from the Black Forest, a prominent location in the show.
- Cruel and Unusual Death: The Blutbad victims are given a poison that compels them to climb a tree, then makes their intestines explode.
- Cycle of Revenge: Blutbaden have always targeted Bauerschwein, so now Bauerschwein are targeting Blutbaden. What Nick fears is that now Blutbaden will declare war on Bauerschwein in revenge.
- Fantastic Racism: The Bauerschwein running the restaurant view their actions to be justified because of their people's sufferings at the hands of Blutbaden. Never mind that their victims are just random people who may never have hurt a Bauerschwein in their lives.
- Irony: When Monroe and Rosalee are given tartlets with their meal, they smell so good Monroe almost falls off the vegetarian wagon, but Rosalee eats both, joking "I'll save you." Turns out the tartlets are made with a Blutbad-specific poison, and she really did save him.
- You Killed My Friend: Monroe's friend Sam was one of the victims, leading the usually-peaceful Monroe into a rage. Either Nick finds a way to arrest the guilty party, or he's hunting Bauerschwein.
