Chapter 45: Freezing
Kalita thinks back on the past.
With Muko failing to defeat Nyarai, Kalita watches as her partner is beat up. As she watches the torture, Kalita reflects on the past.
- Death from Above: Nyarai tries to defeat Muko by jumping from the turnbuckle to hit her with a falling axe kick. Muko only survives because Kalita tags illegally to block the kick.
- Everyone Has Standards: The bullies react with horror when Kalita breaks Sadie's glasses, causing one of the shards to enter her eye. They actually go to the school to find the nurse and call out Kalita for doing that.
- Eye Scream: Kalita kicked Sadie in the face in an attempt to not lose face in front of her bully friends. However, she broke Sadie's glasses and one of the shards entered into her eye.
- Friendship Denial: Kalita pretended to not be friends with Sadie to fit in with the bullies at school. This ultimately proved to be the first step to their friendship deteriorating since Kalita's bully friends picked on Sadie.
- Friendship Moment: Kalita saves Muko from Nyarai at the end of the chapter, acknowledging her as her friend.
- Kick Them While They Are Down: Nyarai spends the first pages kicking and stomping Muko, who is already on the mat.
- My Greatest Failure: Kalita considers what she did to Sadie the greatest mistake of her life. She ran away from home out of shame. Likewise, the incident with Sadie is why she refused to acknowledge Muko and Cookie as her friends since she's afraid of hurting the people that she loves.
- Thwarted Coup de Grâce: Kalita tags illegally to defend Muko from Nyarai's axe kick at the end of the chapter.
- Would Hit a Girl: Kalita's bully friends didn't hesitate to hurt Sadie despite her gender. Despite this, they are all horrified when Kalita makes Sadie lose an eye, calling her out for what she did and running to find the nurse.
