Belligerent Sexual Tension: Implied between Casey and Dr. Sam, who after a rocky start, seem to develop feelings for each other.

Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: When the circus members are discussing about calling Dr. Sam back after Casey alienated her with his chauvinism, Mary Anderson reacts to her husband Harry's negative response to having a woman doctor by punching him in the arm. Later when Harry refuses to be examined by Dr. Sam, Mary lashes out at him for his contrarian attitude and when he insists that nothing she says or does will convince him otherwise, cue to him in a line outside Dr. Sam's wagon with a visible bruise under his left eye.
Dude Magnet: Dr. Sam attracts the attention of both an Indian Chief and Casey himself, who'd previously dismissed the idea of having a female doctor.
Injun Country: After leaving the circus, Dr. Sam and her nurse are approached and lidnapped by Indians, whose Chief shows interest to marry her. Casey, who'd lost the discussion about whether or not to call her back to her position as doctor, is the one to find her and makes amends with the doctor after convincing the Indians to let them go.
Status Quo Is God: At the end, Dr. Sam leaves the circus team after a job opportunity appears for her in the city, though they say goodbye with great fanfare after she performed an emergency surgery which saved a trapezist's life.
Tomboyish Name: Casey to discover Dr. Sam Applewhite is a woman, with Sam as a diminutive for Samantha.
