With Marvin's help, Louis attempts to rekindle the flame between him and Jessica. Evan and Emery want to be their English teacher's favorite student.
- Butt-Monkey: The other student in detention with Evan and Emery towards the end is called "Stripes" by the teacher overseeing them; when he offers to help clean the classroom with them and points out he has a real name, said teacher tells him to stop trying to humanize himself.
- Crazy Jealous Guy: Thanks to a bit of Marvin's prodding, Louis becomes convinced that he has to start making grand romantic gestures to keep Jessica after she starts putting more time into publishing her book than paying attention to him (with the breaking point being not washing the car together). After this leads to Jessica accidentally tasering him and lecturing him on his behavior, Louis tries to be more supportive, gifting her coupons for a local car wash.
- Mistaken for Murderer: While trying to make Jessica show affection for him again, Louis sets up a secret romantic picnic date, and attempts to blindfold her while she's in town shopping to add to the surprise. Jessica mistakes him for a stalker and tasers him.
- Never My Fault: Evan and Emery eventually reach the conclusion that the problem with them trying to endear themselves to Ms. Doris is Ms. Doris. This is after their competition to see which one of them can be her favorite leads to wrestling each other to try and clean her classroom first, and a fistfight during class that she sends them to detention for, which gets pardoned by a different teacher.
- Somebody Doesn't Love Raymond: Evan and Emery desperately try to figure out how to get their literature teacher Ms. Doris to like them, even though they've already endeared themselves to every other teacher at their school. In The Tag, they finally admit that they'll never get her to like them, but if 99.9% of authority figures do, it's still an A+.
- Teacher's Pet: Evan and Emery both try to be this, and are successful with everyone but Ms. Doris, who better connects with students like Eddie.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: After accidentally tasering Louis, Jessica lectures him that he's not always as easy-going as he thinks he is, and that her current desire to have a life outside of just taking care of her family shouldn't have been interpreted as some relationship-ending disaster.
