Recap / Frasier S 07 E 19 Morning Becomes Entertainment

Go To

Frasier's agent Bebe becomes his unlikely co-host during a temporary stint on a TV talk show.

Tropes:

  • Attention Whore: Bebe originally has to fill in for Roz on the television show, when Roz becomes too ill to perform. After the week's over and Frasier can return to radio, she has a bit of a breakdown, as she'd spent her life in the wings and was glad to be in the spotlight. She nearly convinces Frasier to stick with showbusiness, appealing to his own shallow need for attention, but Niles manages to convince Frasier to put psychiatry over entertainment.
  • Became Their Own Antithesis: Originally, Frasier shows some hesitation to being on a "Morning News"-type show, considering it sensationalist tripe, but Bebe says he'll be given full control of the content, including guests. When this inevitably disinterests the producers, Bebe's meddling replaces his speeches with celebrity impressions, and has him do a cooking segment alongside a chimpanzee.
  • Hypocritical Humor: When Kenny decides to make Frasier and Roz take a break for a week while they're renegotiating their contracts, he uses the opportunity to try out a new "Car Talk" segment in their time slot. Frasier is upset about a program prattling on for an hour about a topic where most people wouldn't understand the fine details. Roz agrees, in that it's what they've already been doing for years.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: After accidentally using the women's bathroom at the cafĂ©, Martin insists that his eyesight isn't going, while mistaking the creamer for his drink.
  • Playing a Tree: While Niles is pointing out how his brother has always been a Large Ham when put on stage, Frasier claims he brought out the true potential of "Farmer #3".
  • Sick Episode: Roz shows up with a nasty cold on the first day of the TV gig which leads to Bebe taking her place.
  • Unplanned Crossdressing: After being convinced to start wearing glasses, Martin doesn't seem to comprehend that the fancy frame he picks was designed for women, and thinks that the sudden attention he's been receiving from the other sex is because they make him look suave. He finally realizes it in The Tag, when eating with a woman who has identical glasses.
  • Vaudeville Hook: Niles remarks how it's inevitable that Frasier would end up on television, since as a child, he once over-dramatized a bit part during a performance of Oklahoma! to the extent that he had to literally be lasso'd from the stage.
