Foster travels to the future in search of Thor's hammer that was lost in a vortex. Its the only weapon powerful enough to stop the invasion. He finds a future Earth under GUA control and his older jaded self the head of the resistance.
Tropes:
- Bad Future: Once again, Cade finds himself in a future where the Gua have won. This time, there's a bitter and crazy future Cade to go with it.
- Future Me Scares Me: Future!Cade is haunted by the guilt of killing Jordan and failing to prevent the invasion. He refuses to believe that Cade is really from the future, or that he can succeed where Future!Cade failed. He intends to give Mabus Thor's Hammer and make things go differently this time.
- MacGuffin: Thor's Hammer. Previously lost in a vortex, the hammer is back as Mabus has a way to track it down. Trying to find it first leads Cade to the Bad Future.
- Never the Selves Shall Meet: Two Cades in the same time is causing both of them to deteriorate, and will disappear if they don't separate. Future!Cade wants this to happen, believing if they disappear from reality the world will get another chance.
- Timey-Wimey Ball: Future!Cade got the Hammer from the vortex and sacrificed Jordan to kill Mabus, but the Second Wave happened anyway. Broken by losing Jordan, Cade was unable to use the Hammer to fight and lost the war. He assumes Cade will repeat his mistake, and wants to wipe both of them from the timeline to change the outcome.
