• Chekhov's Skill:
  • "Everybody Hates Gambling" established that one thing Chris actually is good at is picking ball games. Here, he actually keeps making good calls on a game of three-card monte until he goes all-in on a bet and loses all the money.
  • Rochelle's father was a gambler growing up, so she was raised learning how hustlers play their games and uses it to get the family's money back.
• Genre Savvy: Rochelle grew up around gamblers and hustlers, so she sees right through the conman's tricks and gets the money back.
• No-Sell: Rochelle isn't intimidated at all by the hustler's cons, as she knows all his tricks.
• Scary Black Man: This is one of the few times Julius uses his stature to intimidate someone, cornering the hustler before he tries to run off with the Rocks' cash.
• "Shaggy Dog" Story: After all the mess with the card game, Julius not being able to secure seats anyway, and Rochelle saving the day by getting all the money back, their bus leaves in the meantime.
• Shell Game: A hustler sets up shop with a game of three-card monte. Chris, wanting to do right by his family and make some money to fly them down south, decides to play. He actually gets a hot streak going, but decides to go all in and ends up losing everything.
• Sucks at Dancing: One of Chris' schemes to make some of the money back is to breakdance. The actual breakdancer before him makes a good bit of money, but when it's his turn to dance, the crowd actually takes all their money back.
• Wretched Hive: The Port Authority is a really seedy, dirty place full of the worst New York has to offer. Narrator!Chris even states that it's worse than Bed-Stuy.
  Rochelle: Okay, I want y'all to be real careful in here. This place is full of pickpockets, pimps, and murderers, and child molesters, and thieves!
  Chris Rock: That's the Port Authority slogan!
  Julius: Rochelle, don't scare 'em..
  Chris Rock: Too late!
