Recap / Donkey Kong Country S 1 E 11 Orangutango

Go To

The Orangotango dance contest is coming up, and the winner will receive a wish from the Crystal Coconut. Cranky is confident that Funky Kong will win like he always does, but that confidence is shaken the Idol of Inca-Dinka-Doo summons DK to his temple, requiring our hero to need Funky's biplanes. Can DK return Funky back before K.Rool takes part?

Tropes

  • Answer Cut: After Cranky tells Funky that K. Rool is entering the dance contest, Diddy wonders who his dance partner will be. The next scene it transitions to reveals it's Krusha.
  • Chekhov's Gag: A Running Gag involves Klump showing off his dancing at inopportune times, only for K. Rool to growl "I wish you wouldn't do that..." Sure enough, when he does it again after K. Rool wins a wish, he shouts this and accidentally wastes his wish on it.
  • Death Trap Tango: Invoked. Donkey Kong, Diddy, and Funky head to the Temple of Inka Dinka Doo and consult the Idol for help in learning to dance so he can beat King K. Rool in an upcoming dance contest. The Idol has Donkey Kong go through three hallways full of Death Traps to learn how to dance.
  • Don't Think, Feel: While DK is crossing the last room, Funky yells this hint, "Don't stop, keep movin'! Let your body do the brain-work!"
  • Meaningless Villain Victory: K. Rool wins the dancing competition and thus the prize: a wish from the Crystal Coconut. Fortunately, he accidentally wastes it on wishing that Klump would stop his annoying dancing.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: If Klump had a filter on when to and when not to break into dance moves, K. Rool wouldn't have inadvertently wasted his wish demanding he stop.
  • Pet the Dog: Cranky, despite often lambasting DK when he messes up, instead tells DK that K. Rool being able to wish on the coconut isn’t his fault.
  • Pinball Protagonist: Despite what's said at the end, K. Rool being beaten has nothing to do with DK- if anything, the mission from Inca-Dinka-Doo made things harder!
  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: While DK would not have been able to dance without Inca-Dinka-Doo calling him to the temple for the trials, DK would not have needed to dance in the competition if Funky hadn't sprained his ankle. Funky would not have sprained his ankle if Inca-Dinka-Doo hadn't called DK to the temple for those lessons in the first place.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Inca-Dinka-Doo orchestrating DK's dancing lessons and causing Funky to sprain his ankle (thus forcing DK to dance in his place) was all for nothing, since K.Rool still won the challenge. Unfairly, mind you. If it weren't for K. Rool's careless wording, he would have become ruler of Kongo Bongo Island.
  • Sucks at Dancing: Klump, big time. Just ask K. Rool.
  • Training from Hell: Inca-Dinka-Doo's "Rooms of Doom" were actually a dance lesson for DK.
  • Wasteful Wishing : K. Rool's bad temper and Klump's ridiculous dance combine to cause K. Rool to waste his wish from the Crystal Coconut.
    K. Rool: *after seeing Klump randomly break out his annoying jumping jacks dance for the third time* I WISH YOU WOULDN'T DO THAT!!!
Cranky: *after the coconut grants his wish* Looks like you got your one wish, K. Rool!
