Recap / Digimon Ghost Game - E13 "Executioner"

Go To

Reports of a mysterious Digimon killer dubbed by the Digimon community as "the Executioner" is going around killing Digimon by sticking their heads with a knife, and has reached their 991th kill as the episode starts. The killer reveals himself to be a Sealsdramon, and attempts to go for Gammamon as his 1000th kill only for Bokomon to Take the Bullet in his place. Bokomon's death angered Gammamon, that he transformed into a murderous form known as GulusGammamon, who killed Sealsdramon quickly despite Hiro's pleas and turned against his owner.

Tropes

  • Forced to Watch: Hiro gets to watch Gammamon - the closest thing he has to a little brother and the youngest member of the group - become targeted by a Serial Killer, everybody watching in horror as Sealsdramon positions his laser towards the oblivious Digimon's forehead. He desperately runs in to save him...but he can't because Sealsdramon is too quick and Gammamon is so far away from him, but by the time Hiro is barely a few feet away Bokomon has managed to throw himself in the knife's trajectory and is mortally wounded. Just as quickly as the fear of losing a sibling was replaced by that of watching a friend die, Sealsdramon is back to targeting Gammamon and Hiro again dives in to save him...just in time to watch him snap and evolve into GulusGammamon.
  • Knight of Cerebus: Sealsdramon, who is a digimon Serial Killer. Not only are his deeds - killing 1,000 Digimon personally - completely unprecendented by any past Digimon villain (including ones like Lucemon who relied on underlings to do their bidding), the way he's dealt with is equally brutal and alerts the gang that something is wrong with Gammamon. And after him, Hiro and co. find themselves dealing with more high-stake Digimon cases involving more deaths and widespread harm.
  • Mysterious Watcher: After GulusGammamon reverts back to Gammamon, it can be seen that a Black Agumon is watching the group from the roof of a building.
  • Wham Episode: Not only does this episode have the first character death of the series with Bokomon (Which in turn gives the viewer insight on how Digimon reincarnation works in this series), but we're also introduced to Gammamon's Dark Evolution, GulusGammamon who in turn is a MASSIVE case of Breaking Old Trends from previous Dark Evolutions.
  • Would Hurt a Child:
    • Sealsdramon primarily kills Digimon, but he is not above killing human children as soon as they dare confront him.
    • GulusGammamon almost does the same after hearing enough of Hiro's attempts to talk him down. Only being stopped from doing so by flashing back to Bokomon's death and reverting back to child form.
