Honor Among Thieves

Directed by Jesus Salvador Trevino
Written by Aaron Zelman & Andrew Wilder
Prentiss: An old Russian proverb reminds us, "There can be no good without evil."

Emily's mother shows up and begs the FBI to save her friend's husband, Mr. Chernus, who's been kidnapped by Russian mobsters demanding a ransom. The daughter, Natalya, looks more suspicious the longer it goes on.

Provides examples of:

  • Arbitrarily Large Bank Account: The obochek, the pooled money the Russian mobsters share.
  • "Ass" in Ambassador: Emily's mother is kind of a jerk.
  • Character Focus: On Emily Prentiss.
  • Finger in the Mail: The kidnappers send the victim's ring finger with his wedding ring on to prove that they have him. Later they send an ear.
  • Never My Fault: Subverted by Natalya. She blames her father for putting her in a situation where she had to have him kidnapped and murdered, but she is very sorry.
  • Omniglot: Emily speaks Russian as well as the languages she's been shown to speak in previous episodes (Arabic, Spanish, English). She admits that her Russian isn't very good, though.
  • Shout-Out: Garcia follows the Swiss bank account information like Hansel and Gretel.
  • Tattooed Crook: The Vory v Zakone have several meaningful tattoos. To no one's surprise, Reid knows what they mean.

Prentiss: "Happy families are all alike. Every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." Leo Tolstoy.
