Recap / Cold Case S 7 E 1 The Crossing

Go To

"The Crossing" is the premier episode in the seventh season of Cold Case.

After her skeleton is found in the boiler room of the luxury cruise ship The Americana, the team looks deeper into the 1966 death of Darcy Curtis, whose death was ruled a suicide.

Tropes:

  • Can Always Spot a Cop: Played for Laughs. Nick Vera walks into a steakhouse, and then the host asks, "What can I do for you, detective?" before he can show a badge or say a word. Apparently, his shoes gave him away.
  • Finally Found the Body: It was long thought that Darcy had committed suicide by jumping overboard.
  • Flashback Effects: The flashbacks are filmed on projector film. The sound of a projector whirring can even be heard.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Geoffrey Manning had been in love with the wealthy daughter of the family his father worked for since they were kids. He knew she was out of his league, but not pursuing her didn't stop him from trying to secure her happiness, like making sure her fiancé didn’t leave her for another woman.
Geoffrey: Couldn’t bear for her heart to be broken, even if she wasn’t mine.
  • Karma Houdini: Moe Kitchener walks free after driving Lilly off the road in the previous two-parter.
  • Shotgun Wedding: Darcy and Duke were going to have one, but she was murdered before she met him at the altar.
  • Slobs Versus Snobs: Vera threatens Manning that if he does not cooperate, he will get the entire force to eat at his classy restaurant. In the end, they do just that.
  • Unlucky Childhood Friend: Every man of the Manning family served as butler to the wealthy Gibbs family. Geoffrey Manning grew up with the daughter Millie Gibbs and loved her for years, so much so that, even though he knew he couldn’t have her himself, he still went out of the way to make sure Duke didn’t break her heart. Whether or not Millie ever loved Geoffrey back remains to be seen, as it's implied that they never got together.
