Recap / Code Lyoko S 4 E 9

Go To

Jeremy is convinced that the band of Lyoko Warriors needs to get into shape to better fight against X.A.N.A. Who better than Jim, a former Special Forces drill sergeant, to whip them into shape? Our heroes—including Jeremy—find themselves enlisted in a “commando camp,” that soon shows our young recruits where their limits lie! While training, they also have an opportunity to discover more about the life of their drill sergeant gym teacher. But soon enough, X.A.N.A attacks… And while Jeremy stays behind to assist a wounded “GI Jim,” the Lyoko Warriors will have to apply their newfound skills in order to reach the factory…

This episode contains examples of:

  • A Day in the Limelight: Serves as one for Jim, as the heroes receive training from him and learn more about him. Even the episode is a reference to his Catchphrase; "I'd Rather Not Talk About It".
  • Big Damn Heroes: When Jérémie is about to let go of the rope keeping him out of the boar's reach, Jim appears to distract it enough for Jérémie to fall down safely and hide.
  • Brick Joke: We finally get some context for a lot of Jims' jobs he'd rather not talk about. It turns out a lot of tall tales are partially true, but mostly embellished. For example, judging by the flashbacks, Jim really did work for the secret service...as a janitor, not as a secret service agent. He was also in the special forces training, then was moved to the Navy, which is when he learned scuba diving, and he apparently tested NASA's Space suits.
  • Call-Back: Multiple:
    • Jim is shown listening to Glad When You're Bad, the song XANA created in Killer Music, in his room.
    • Ulrich's Vertigo is alluded to when he struggles to climb the net.
    • XANA makes his activated tower invisible, a trick he previously pulled in Attack of the Zombies.
  • Crisis Makes Perfect: While in Jim's "commando camp", each of the heroes struggles with a specific exercise that they later have to overcome in order to get to the factory or escape from the boar:
    • Odd is shown to have trouble keeping up with the others while running, in part due to his meals. Later on, he's leading Yumi and Aelita during their final sprint to the factory.
    • Ulrich is shown struggling to climb a net, once again showing his Vertigo.
    • Jérémie is shown struggling with slack-lining (walking on a rope tied between two trees, with another rope above for him to grab onto.)
    • Yumi has trouble crawling through a trench (simulated by having the heroes crawl under hurdles with barbed wires) and has her hoody and sweatpants caught on said wires.
    • Aelita has trouble walking on a balance beam.
  • Full-Boar Action: XANA possesses a boar in the woods to attack the heroes.
  • I Owe You My Life: Jérémie attends Jims' training courses due to this trope, and Because You Were Nice to Me.
  • Running Gag: Jims' "I'd rather not talk about it" tendencies are amplified here, saying that he once orbited the earth for NASA, and that he was part of a special forces unit.
  • He Is Not My Boyfriend: When Yumi and Odd first spot William, Odd jokingly calls him her boyfriend, leading to Yumi saying this line verbatim.
