Tropes for this episode include:

  • Cultural Posturing: Zamfir seems to think that Targoviste — even after Dracula was done with it — is a shining beacon to Wallachia and the rest of the world.
  • Dead All Along: The royals of Targoviste. Zamfir, driven insane by Dracula's destruction of the city, propped up their corpses after convincing herself that they're just sleeping and will magically resurrect eventually.
  • Doing In the Wizard: Trevor reveals that vampires aren't repulsed by crosses because of any holy significance. Instead, perfect geometric shapes up-close gives their Super-Senses a form of Sensory Overload that causes them to panic.
  • Funny Background Event: Trevor is scavenging and plundering the Underground Court for holy water and magical items while Sypha and Zamir are arguing
  • Glad I Thought of It: Varney is quick to take credit for Ratko's plan to find the underground hideout of the royal family, stating that it became his plan the moment he gave Ratko his blessing to execute it. Ratko does not agree, leading to a fierce argument between the two.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: Trevor finds the Cross Haladie
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: After the Bishop led to Targoviste's destruction, Zamfir had all of their priests killed. On-top of causing more needless death, the lack of any holy men limits their defenses against unholy things like vampires and night creatures. She even had all of their reserves of holy water poured into protecting the main underground chamber, instead of providing it to the people living above ground. Atop of all this, she also had all the weapons concealed underground, instead of providing people of Targoviste with means of defending themselves from the night creatures. Sypha and Trevor are rightfully horrified by her actions.
