Hoggish Greedly starts overfishing the entire ocean with drift nets. Things get complicated when he manages to steal the Planeteers' rings.
This episode includes examples of the following tropes:
- Bad Boss: Greedly treats Rigger very badly, up to stealing his underling's already meager dinner.
- Conveyor Belt of Doom: The Planeteers almost get mulched when Rigger accidentally knocks the bathysphere Greedly used to imprison them onto a conveyor belt heading into the fish processor.
- Didn't Think This Through: Gi tries rushing to the sea creatures' rescue without waiting for the other Planeteers to come along, or for Gaia to officially give them the mission. Kwame doesn't let her go all alone, but it's still not enough to keep them out of massive trouble, which Gi only realizes when it's too late.
- "Eureka!" Moment: The Planeteers are stuck inside a bathysphere on a conveyor belt heading for the fish processor. When Gi hits the side of the prison out of frustration with Greedly's scheme, Linka criticizes her for making the bathysphere rock. That's when Wheeler realizes that if they rock it hard enough, they can get it off the belt.
- It's Personal: Due to her love of marine creatures, Gi is extremely upset when she discovers Greedly's latest scheme.
- Malicious Misnaming: Wheeler trash-talks Greedly by calling him "Hoggish Greaseball".
- Pun-Based Title: On the Dead Sea
. - Saying Too Much: When Greedly captures Kwame and Gi for the second time by catching their rings with a supermagnet, Wheeler tries to melt the magnet, only to realize his power doesn't work. Ma-Ti reminds him that with Captain Planet around, the rings are useless... unaware that Greedly can hear every single word.Wheeler: What happened to my fire?
Ma-Ti: Captain Planet still has our powers. Our rings are useless.
Greedly (in his submarine): Just what I wanted to hear, motormouth. - Watch Where You're Going!: In her haste to gather the others to stop Greedly, Gi literally runs into Kwame.
- You're Nothing Without Your Phlebotinum: When Greedly steals the Planeteers' rings, he gloats that the kids are nothing without the rings. Captain Planet disagrees.
