Continued from The Yellowstone Monster Part 1

When we last left our heroes... well, let's let the Lemony Narrator say it, shall we?

"So let's see. Where we were we?

Ah yes. I do believe that Calvin and Hobbes were just captured by the idiotic genius known as Dr Brainstorm and his smarter-than-him assistant, Jack the robot.

Dr Brainstorm thinks that Calvin is out to overthrow him, and Hobbes is a robot.

Ho hum.

Well, what are we waiting for? Let's resume."

Anyway, Brainstorm may think that he has the upper hand gadget-wise, but Calvin soon outdoes him, and thanks to the Duplicator and Transmogrifier he's soon beaten by a bunch of birds. With this done, the duo head off to enact their plan to stop the volcano.

Unfortunately, Brainstorm isn't about to let them slide, and wants to use the kid's superior technology to rule the world. While he fights them, it ends abruptly when he angrily tosses his laser into the thin layer of ice, and the volcano begins erupting.

Desperate for help, Calvin and company go to Socrates' house, tricking him into activating his transmitter and contacting none other than Rupert and Earl, who they give the lava to (it's their national beverage).

With everything back to normal, Calvin and Hobbes head home.

Tropes:

  • A Rare Sentence: "Thanks, Earth Potentate!" Beat "Boy, there's three words I never thought I'd say in a row."
  • Ask a Stupid Question...:
    Rupert: IS THIS THE LAVA?
    Jack: No, it's cotton candy.
  • As You Know: When Calvin describes Planet Zok's weird alien biology.
  • Crazy Enough to Work: Subverted pointedly.
"I can use the kid's inventions to control the volcano, and when it erupts, I'll have the lava destroy all the capitals in the world, and then I'll take over!"
    Jack stared some more.
"That plan…may just be crazy enough…," he said.
    There was a pause.
    "Well…?" asked Dr Brainstorm.
    "Well what?"
"Aren't you going to say that it's crazy enough to work?"
"No, I just mean that it's crazy enough."
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The hawks vs. Brainstorm.
  • Green Aesop: Calvin learns to never tamper with nature.
  • Mythology Gag: When the Duplicator is accidentally activated, Jack notes "Did you hear scientific progress?"
