"Shop Till You Drop" is the 10th episode of Season 7 and the 150th overall. It originally aired December 3, 2010.
It's Christmastime and Jo convinces Mac to go window shopping with her. He spots a pickpocket in the crowd and right after they nab him, a murder victim is revealed when a department store window display is unveiled. The prime suspect in the murder refuses to speak while being interrogated.
Tropes for the episode:
- Did I Mention It's Christmas?: Other than the "holiday" window display, you'd never know Christmas was right around the corner.
- Percussive Pickpocket: The guy was taking advantage of the crowded situation in order to steal several wallets and other items, but he didn't count on Mac's keen sense of observation.
- Rhyming Title: Shop/drop.
- Sexual Extortion: The department store manager had forced the suspect to have sex with him in one of the store's washrooms as a bribe to keep from turning her in for petty theft. She thought it would be a one-time thing, but he kept coming back for more.
- Stealing from the Till: The store manager had caught the suspect on camera slipping a few dollars out all the registers she closed out on multiple occasions. No one incident was enough for prosecution, but they added up to quite a bit over time.
- Terminally-Ill Criminal: The Body of the Week is a department store owner who turns out to have been killed in self-defense after he blackmailed the store manager into having sex with him. The blackmail material? He caught her on tape stealing from the tills in order to pay unauthorized Christmas bonuses to employees who were scheduled to be laid off, because she'd been diagnosed with terminal cancer and wanted to go out with a bang. Jo lets her walk, but it's mentioned that due to the late stage of her disease, it's likely she wouldn't be around to face trial anyway.
- Title Drop: Shouted by the store owner immediately before he reveals the window display.
