Mac and the team continue to investigate the case of Chief Carver's sister.
Tropes for the episode:
- Justified Criminal: The killer turns out to be Carver's oldest nephew, who was protecting himself and his siblings from their neglectful and abusive mother in a case of self-defense.
- Let Off by the Detective: To an extent, and it's up to the powers that be, not the team. Because he had covered up the crime for decades, Carver is forced to step down and is stripped of his pension, but Mac puts in a good word for him/his track record and he will face no jail time. His nephew will be charged, but due to the self-defense aspect and the fact that he was a minor at the time, he will likely not have to face trial.
- Scars Are Forever: Chief Carver's adult nephew still has horrible scars on his back from his mother's abuse of him as a child.
- Sequel Episode: Concludes the story begun the previous week.
