Thanks to an incident causing the gang's house to smell stinky from Mouse's Smell Machine that the Smith twins accidentally caused, they are invited by the Smith parents to stay with them until the smell goes, where the gang and the Smiths challenge each other in competitions.
"The Hosts" provides examples of:
- Big "NO!": As thanks for letting his grandkids stay with them, Gramps tells the Smith parents that he would take Stevie and Susie with them so the couple can get peace and quiet. Cue the gang (minus Cat) and the Smith twins screaming at the turn of events.
- Cheaters Never Prosper: Realizing that they could never beat the gang at making breakfast, Stevie and Susie opt to sabotage their efforts by causing a chain reaction from Cheese's loud sneezing that results in the kitchen getting messy. Unfortunately, their parents saw how everything played out, with Mrs. Smith deciding to prevent their kids from joining them on their planned trip.
- Crazy-Prepared: When Mrs. Smith offers the six to have their bags settled in, Boy states that he and his siblings have a system for that where they place each luggage in an organized manner.
- A Day in the Limelight: The Smith family play a major role in the episode due to the titular characters having to stay with them for a while.
- Here We Go Again!: The gang and the Smiths spent the whole episode competing against each other, and while it may seem things have been resolved at the fact that the six can come back home due to the smell being gone, Gramps tells Mr. and Mrs. Smith that he's taking Stevie and Susie with them, to the dismay of both sides with having to put up with each other again for another day.
- Idiot Houdini: It was Cat wanting Mouse's Smell Machine to smell like her litter box that contributed to the problem of the stinky house in the first place yet she's never called out for her part.
- Jerkass Realization: Mr. and Mrs. Smith end up realizing that Girl's right about the feud and take responsibility for the fact that this all happened because they offered the six to partake in their challenges and apologizes for putting them all in a tough spot.
- Kick Them While They're Down: It was bad enough for Stevie and Susie that they wouldn't be allowed on the planned trip. Cheese added salt to the wound by joyfully cheering at seeing their rivals humiliated while admitting that she doesn't feel sorry for them before Girl and Mouse's glares cause her to back off.
- Lampshade Hanging: Upon hearing that there would be rewards, Cheese claims that rewards is her middle name before questioning the fact of whether or not she and her siblings have last names.
- No Sympathy: Unlike her siblings, Cheese doesn't feel any remorse or sympathy for the Smiths when they get punished and momentarily cheers at the situation.
- Tempting Fate:
- Right after the whole house became stinky, Cheese walks in with the assumption that it's safe to go back indoors, only to crawl back out melted stating otherwise.
- Girl blames Stevie and Susie for causing the issue and hopes their parents ground them. Stevie smugly assumes that they would never find out, only for Gramps to have already called the Smith parents of what the two did.
- When Boy calls out Stevie and Susie for purposely sabotaging their efforts on making breakfast, Stevie attempts to deny it, only for their parents to show up and state that they witnessed the chicanery.
- Dog tells the others that messed could be cleaned up in no time, only for the cow he touched to rush out of the house and making a hole in the front door.
