Bandit is taking his daughters to the movies, and while Bingo is excited, Bluey is nervous because she's afraid of thunder and fears there may be a storm in the movie (and as such, has never been to the movies before). Bandit gets the tickets and popcorn and asks if there are any "scary" scenes, and the ticket salesman scares Bluey further by revealing that the movie does indeed show a storm.

Bandit and the girls begin to watch the movie (with Bluey still a little nervous). It shows a chimpanzee named Chunky, who builds a bicycle but is berated for being "different". He then starts singing about how he wants to be normal, annoying Bandit who apparently doesn't like songs.

Bingo spills her popcorn, so Bandit goes to replace it, taking both girls with him. Bluey says that due to being the last in her friend group to go to the movies, she fears she's "different", like Chunky. Bandit tells her not to worry too much and they go back to the theatre.

The movie then shows Chunky wanting to be on the ground instead of in the trees and being told to "be himself". Bingo gets bored and starts exploring the theatre, then she needs to use the bathroom. There, Bluey wonders if she should "be herself" as well, but Bandit tells her that she shouldn't take it seriously as it's only a movie.

Then, the storm scene comes on, scaring Bluey, who wants to leave. Just as Bandit is about to leave with the girls, Bingo runs off, so they chase after her. Bluey is having trouble as she's covering her eyes, but when she hears a character in the movie say, "There's no one else quite like you", she decides to face her fear and uncover her eyes. Bandit gets Bingo and is about to leave, but Bluey decides to stay after all.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Animate Inanimate Object: The movie character who says, "There's no one else quite like you" is a talking pinecone.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Bingo doesn't have the attention span to sit through a film, with Bandit trying to get out of having to pay for her ticket by arguing that she won't really be watching.
  • Be Yourself: Explored. Bluey is conflicted as she watches Chunky Chimp between being like everyone else and being "herself". On one hand, the movie protagonist Chunky isn't happy being different from all the other chimps, so Bluey concludes that if she wants to stop "being different", she'll finish the movie like all her other classmates would. Not too long after, when Chunky's new friend sings a musical about "being yourself", Bluey wonders what it means to be herself. At the movie's climax, the magic pinecone tells both Chunky and Bluey the true definition of this trope:
Chunky Chimp: I should've just stayed in the trees like everyone else!
The Magic Pinecone: But you didn't! You rode off to save the village, because there's no one else quite like you.
  • Face Your Fears: Bluey's inability to watch the movie stems from her fear of storms. At the movie's climax, she cowers that the "scary bit" is on, despite her previous resolve to finish the movie like her classmates would. But when she hears the message of the movie, she's inspired to keep watching in spite of her fears. Afterwards, she decides she has what it takes to watch the movie to its conclusion.
  • Fear of Thunder: Bluey is revealed to be afraid of storms, to the point where up until now, she's been too scared to go to the movies for fear of the movie depicting thunder.
  • Genki Girl: Bingo's considerably more hyperactive than usual in this episode; she interacts with movie standees, is unable to sit still on the movie seat and runs through the theater more than once, like a real child.
  • Genre Savvy: Bandit casually predicts the movie will end with everyone liking that Chunky is different, since that's how most movies aimed at kids end. Sure enough, it does.
  • "I Can't Look!" Gesture: When the thunderstorm comes on, Bluey covers her eyes.
  • Melancholy Musical Number: The first song in the movie is about how Chunky wants to be normal.
  • Movie-Theater Episode: This episode revolves around Bandit taking Bluey and Bingo to the movies.
  • Musical Number Annoyance: Bandit says, "Ugh! Songs!" when the movie characters start singing.
  • Papa Wolf: When Bingo's disruptive behavior makes a movie standee fall, Bandit immediately saves Bluey, who was close to the standee, before it falls and hits her. He also repeatedly checks on Bluey when she gets too scared to watch the movie and comforts her.
  • Plot Parallel: Bluey's arc throughout the episode greatly parallels Chunky's Hero's Journey in the movie. Every now and again, the movie seems to mimic what our characters say or do. Towards the movie's climax, when Bluey is too scared to open her eyes and help Bandit catch Bingo because "the scary bit's on", she and Chunky simultaneously say, "I can't do it! I'm not ready!" Noticing this prompts her to watch the movie out of curiosity. And just as Chunky succeeds in turning his bicycle into a flying machine, so does Bluey overcome her fear and catch Bingo.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Subverted. Bluey considers leaving the movie due to her fear, but then decides to stay.
  • Show Within a Show: Bluey, Bingo and Bandit go to see a movie called Chunky Chimp, and Chunky's dilemma parallels Bluey's own throughout the episode.
  • Toilet Humour: Bingo needs to use the bathroom at one point, and Bandit takes her there and tells her not to touch the "dunny brush".
  • Unconvincingly Unpopular Character: invoked Chunky is an in-universe example, being subjected to criticism by his peers because he...builds a bicycle and wants to explore the world. At no point do his differences inconvenience him or anyone else. Bluey is a foil of him in this regard; she's different from her peers because of a flaw, but is popular with them regardless. (Note that it's the desire to conform that leads her to push her limits by going to the cinema, not a fear that she will be bullied or excluded if she doesn't.)
