When Danny is pulled over because his car matches the description of one involved in a drug deal, police find cocaine in his trunk; Danny's family rallies to come to his defense.

Tropes that appear in this episode:

  • Amicable Exes: Jack and Erin are still respectful to each other. He also gets along with his former brother-in-law. And Danny's kids still call him "Uncle Jack".
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Henry secretly hires Jack, Erin's ex-husband, to represent Danny. Jack agrees to help because during the divorce, Danny was the only member of the family not to shun him.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Lampshaded by Danny.
Danny: Whoever (is framing Danny) is on the job. There's an unmarked car in front of my house the day my gun goes missing.
  • Cryptic Conversation: Deputy Commissioner Moore is out on a walk when he encounters Kate. The two have a conversation using terms such as "mutual acquaintance" and "the thing".
  • Dirty Cop: Captain Elwood, the IA agent.
  • Exact Words:
    • The black book was in the safe. The team couldn't find it, until Kate contacted the manufacturer, who said it had a false bottom.
    • When Linda demands that the family get involved in helping, Frank says that none of them can get involved in the investigation. They didn't get involved with the investigation itself: Henry went to Jack, Frank has Garrett vouch for him and Jamie went to the bakery instead.
  • Frame-Up: Cocaine was planted in Danny's car.
  • The Gambling Addict: Captain Elwood.
  • Irony: Internal Affairs is supposed to be weeding out dirty cops, but IA agent Elwood is dirty himself.
  • MacGuffin: The black book is a ledger of who owes gambling debts. Elwood's name is in it.
  • One-Steve Limit: Averted as usual. Jack Boyle and Jack Reagan.
  • Papa Wolf: Danny confronts the man who set him up for murder, calling him out for endangering his wife and children.
  • Put on a Bus: This is Kate's last episode, as she is transferred back to IA.
  • Spotting the Thread: Burt the dog-walking neighbor snoops on Danny, who comes out and confronts him. After an apology of misunderstanding, Danny asks Burt if he saw any other cars on his driveway. Burt only saw his, but not that old lemon Jeep of his. It's the much nicer, unmarked Dodge Charger. Danny deduces that whoever is setting him up is on the job.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Danny to Elwood.
Danny: You broke into my HOME! MY HOUSE! WHERE MY WIFE AND KIDS SLEEP!
