An End and a Beginning
The Royal Knights are sent on a mission to storm the base of the Eye of the Midnight Sun. Meanwhile, the Black Bulls base is also attacked to obtain the magic stones in the hideout. Licht fights against Julius in the Royal Capital to obtain the magic stones the Wizard King is guarding. And eventually, the elves are reincarnated into the bodies of humans throughout the Clover Kingdom, with the rest of the Magic Knights trying to stop them.
Tropes:
- Arc Villain: At first Patry is justifiably built up as one for this arc...but then it got hijacked by something worse. Zagred, the Word Devil who orchestrated the Elf Massacre and reincarnated their bodies into hate-filled forms, all the while when Patry was his Unwitting Pawn.
- Curb-Stomp Battle:
- Rhya and Meleoleona fight, and the former is absolutely pathetic against the latter, even with his sundry magics. His being on the losing side doesn't last long, though, once Patry revives the elves. Rhya can now cast many magics at once, and to make matters worse, the elf in Rill's body comes to the scene.
- Yuno and Asta are subjected to one by the real Licht.
- Early-Bird Cameo: Near the end of the arc, we get a glimpse of Zenon Zogratis, a member of the Dark Triad, single handedly wiping the floor off with a bunch of Diamond Kingdom troops.
- Happy Ending Override: The real mastermind has been defeated, the possessed humans regain their bodies, and the elves are able to peacefully pass on to the afterlife. However, Julius was revived, but as a thirteen-year-old and his role reduced to off-page tampering behind the scenes, the Magic Knights are exhausted, and the elves already caused widespread destruction. Damnatio then assigns a sham trial for Asta and Secre and Julius orders them into exile alongside the rest of the Black Bulls in place of potential execution. In the aftermath, Clover Kingdom's most valuable magic knight assets go into exile and the Dark Triad quickly start preparing their invasion within the following six months.
- Karmic Death: As Zagred dies, he's mocked by Asta's Devil, the source of the power that led to his undoing and a devil he previously disparaged before for being a low-ranking devil.
- Pummel Duel: Mereoleona vs. Vetto, with the two exchanging rapid punches and nearly matched in speed and power.
- The Reveal:
- The devil Zagred is the mastermind behind the elves' massacre, manipulating Patry to reincarnate the elves to assume a body in the living world.
- Nero is actually a human named Secré Swallowtail who served the First Wizard King and has been preparing against the elves' reincarnation.
- The statue of the First Wizard King, Lumiere Silvamillion Clover, is the actual Wizard King, who was sealed by Secré five centuries ago to come back to foil Zagred's plan.
- The Demon that Lumiere fought in chapter 1? That's Licht. Not Patry — the real one. He did this to evade possession by Zagred, the Word Devil.
- Wham Episode:
- Chapter 142 begins forming a line of wham episodes. William Vangeance is revealed as sharing the same body as Licht.
- Chapter 147 has the Wizard King die from his wounds by Licht.
- Chapter 148 reveals that the Licht who is the acting Big Bad is actually not Licht. It's Patry, an elf boy who looks up to Licht and is reincarnated into Vengeance's body while looking like Licht.
- In Chapter 149, the elves are reincarnated into bodies of members of the Clover Kingdom.
- Chapter 195: Yuno is already fighting Patry, Rhya, and Ronne while the others are catching up. Suddenly, Ronne takes Yuno's magic stone while speaking of the debt being repaid. Rhya questions Ronne about what's he is saying, but gets attacked by Ronne who is possessed by one who is neither elf or human.
- Chapter 196: Ronne was possessed by Zagred, who reveals himself as the true mastermind behind the elf massacre as he tricked humans into attack elves, Licht falling to despair, and Patry falling into revenge as planned! Asta shows up and while Yuno is relieved to see him, the Devil is also more than happy to see Asta.
- Chapter 197: Zagred reveals to Patry that he is the one that he used forbidden Reincarnation Magic, not Licht! It turns out that the first Wizard King and Licht foiled Zagred 500 years ago, so Zagred picked Patry as his pawn in his plans to have his incarnation completed.
- Chapter 201: Licht, Charla, and Yami cooperate in fighting Zagred and then... did Nero just talk?!
- Chapter 203: The statue of the first Wizard King outside Hage Village is the first Wizard King. He was sealed for 500 years in that form by none other than Nero, who's actually a woman. Apparently, the return of Zagred means the Godzilla Threshold has been crossed, and Nero instructs Finral on how to undo the seal on both the Wizard King and herself.
- Chapter 205: The huge Demon God that attacked the Clover Kingdom was Licht. Succumbing to despair after the elves' massacre, he chose to let The Corruption overtake him as opposed to being possessed by Zagred. Lumiere's (the first Wizard King) actions against the Demon God suddenly have elements of Mercy Kill. As for Secre, her transformation into Nero was the result of her using her Sealing Magic and the Magic Stones to seal Lumiere.
- Chapter 214: All death-related here. First, Patry is denied his chance to join the other elves in death, being forced by Rades into the artificial body once used by Licht. The reason: Rades wants Patry to suffer and comprehend the extent of his evil...before Rades comes to claim Patry's life himself. Second, Lumiere's borrowed time runs out and his body finally crumbles, but at least the first Wizard King goes knowing the Clover Kingdom is well on the path towards his dream. Finally, it turns out Julius, master of Time Magic and current Wizard King, found a way to cheat death: enough accumulated Time Magic to reverse his own clock after Patry killed him. When he's discovered alive again, he's reverted to being only 13 years old.
- Wham Shot:
- Chapter 142 has Vangeance tell Julius that he can't choose between him and his friend. Vangeance's scar disappears, then showing the face of Licht.
- In Chapter 145, Julius erases Licht's light blades before they kill everyone in the Clover Kingdom. Licht is speaking to Julius, who's smiling, while Yami has a shocked look on his eyes. The next page shows Julius stabbed through the chest by Licht's giant light sword.
- Chapter 195 has Rhya ask who Ronne really is, with Ronne creepily smiling and the next panel showing a hole in Rhya's stomach.
- In Chapter 196, Ronne places the magic stone, creating a black mass. It takes the form of a very evil-looking devil.
