Recap / Batman Wayne Family Adventures Episode 42 Unbelievable

Go To

Batman shows up to the Justice League's watchtower with a broken leg and speculation abounds with the other leaguers assuming he was injured in a fight with Gotham rogues. It turns out he broke his leg borrowing Tim's skateboard to see if he still remembered how to skate inside the manor and then tripped down a flight of stairs.

Tropes

  • Bait-and-Switch: When the episode flashes back to how Bruce received his injury he's shown skateboarding in the house, but then it turns out he got injured after finishing his ride and getting a bit cocky, and then tripping and falling while simply walking down the stairs because he wasn't paying enough attention.
  • Blatant Lies: When Diana asks if the rumors are true Bruce says agrees that Bane, Riddler, Joker and Killer Croc were all involved with his injury. He does not appear to be trying to get her to believe him, more like he's avoiding admitting what he actually did. Diana is skeptical from the start and is obviously aware that he's lying.
  • Gossip Evolution: The rumor of how Batman got injured starts rather tame (Flash comments that he saw something about Riddler on the news and perhaps that's how Batman's leg got broken) but includes a whole host of villains and convoluted scenarios by the time it reaches Superman and Wonder Woman.
  • Man Bites Man: Aquaman's story about how Batman's leg got broken involves him being bitten by Killer Croc.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Batman shows up to Justice League HQ with his leg in a cast, which leads to the other superheroes speculating on how he was injured. By the time Superman and Wonder Woman ask Batman directly, they've heard that the Joker hired Riddler and Bane to feed him to Killer Croc. Batman responds by affirming the rumor rather than admit the embarrassing truth that he accidentally fell down some stairs at home.
  • Staircase Tumble: After proving to himself he can still skate Bruce manages to trip down the stairs and hurt himself because he wasn't paying attention.
  • Unsound Effect: Bruce glancing from side-to-side, stepping onto the board, and losing his balance on the stairs is represented by the words "look", "step", and "wobble."
