Recap / Bar Rescue S 3 E 2 Rock N Roaches

Go To

Jon Taffer goes to a bar with a music act that showcases moral depravity, one of the worst cockroach infestations he's ever seen, and those still manage to pale in comparison to the delusional owner.

This work includes examples of:

  • Downer Ending: Within days of the remodel, Steve went right back to running his bar into the ground. It barely lasted a year before shutting down for good.
  • Implausible Deniability: Steve tries to claim everything that's going wrong with the bar is supposed to be that way, from claiming that Austin's college-age population thinks a clean bar is "pretentious" (literally everyone who enters the building complains about the smell) to claiming his staff had agreed not to be paid a wage.
  • Jerkass: Steve to mind-boggling levels with the deplorable way he treats his staff, to refusing to acknowledge any of Jon Taffer's valid advice, to refusing to pay his employees.
  • The Millstone: The staff is capable and competent. The problem is that Steve, the one in charge, is going out of his way to make everything worse. Jon suggests at one point that if Steve became a silent partner the bar could run itself.
  • Never My Fault: At no point does Steve ever admit fault for anything. Most blatantly, when the Headhunters staff is ordered to clean the bar, Steve declares, "You guys are horrible." Emphasis on "you guys" - he leaves himself out of it.
  • No, You: When Jon Taffer chews out Steve for knowingly serving bugs to his customers, Steve's only response is "Maybe you're the biggest bug"
  • Stupid Evil: Steve is unbelievably stupid and hateful. He insults his employees for being angry at working in a filthy, bug-infested environment, laughs whenever someone tries to call him on his stupidity, and actively tries to talk his employees out of being paid a regular wage.
  • Trash of the Titans: There is not a single space in the bar that is not infested with cockroaches. That includes in the liquor bottles.
