For this office girl, the sky is a lot higher a limit than she imagines.

Five years ago, Retsuko began a new job in an accounting firm. In the present, her once idealistic view of her future has given way to the reality of a Soul-Crushing Desk Job. How does she cope? By singing death metal.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Cold Open: The series begins with Retsuko's orientation, implying that Fenneko and Haida were hired around the same time as her.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Retsuko jumps in the air with her idealism. Then it pauses, along with the music, and when she comes back down, she twists her ankle.
  • Establishing Character Moment: After getting hounded by Director Ton, Retsuko excuses herself to the restroom just to vent in her signature Metal Scream. While most of her subsequent venting is done at a karaoke club, this establishes how much Retsuko hates her job and how pissed off she can get.
  • Metal Scream: The first one comes when she twists her ankle during her first day on the job.
  • Sherlock Scan: Fenneko has been tailing Tsunoda's social media posts for a while, to the point of noticing a strange pattern. She concludes that a thigh pic is posted once every thirteen days, and the fact that she posted one three days earlier is a hint that she's trying to attract someone.
Fenneko: Selfie, dessert, latte art. Selfie, dessert, latte art. Selfie, dessert, selfie, dessert, selfie, selfie, a thigh pic.
  • Soul-Crushing Desk Job: The setting of Retsuko's work environment. Though it's apparently only crushing to Retsuko, mainly because Ton and the other higher-ups constantly single her out.
  • Verbal Backtracking: In the English dub, Haida talks to Fenneko and Retsuko about having better luck, as female workers, reporting Ton's harassment to them than expecting him to change on his own. Then, he has this with Fenneko.
Haida: I don't envy you girls one bit.
Fenneko: Call us "girls" again. I dare you.
Haida: ...Women! That's what I meant!

The Walk Is Murder

Gori and Washimi confidently strut throughout the halls of the firm, impressing their co-workers. But the moment they turn the corner, Gori confesses walking like that all the time in their heels can be quite painful.

How well does it match the trope?
