Basic Trope: Monsters born from people's negative emotions.

  • Straight: The Hatelings are creatures formed from people's hate for bad writing, overused elements, etc.
  • Exaggerated: Hatelings are born from the slightest negative opinion of the audience.
  • Downplayed:
    • There is only one Hateling per negative opinion at time.
    • Heartless are merely influenced by negative opinions, they'll exist regardless.
  • Justified:
    • The Hatelings exist because the Troperian's God is sick of their unappreciation of young writers.
    • The Empathic Environment in the setting is sensitive to extreme emotions, resulting in creatures borne of these emotions when they get particularly intense.
  • Inverted: The Heavenly Tropes are born from positivity, reflecting the best Troperian writing.
  • Subverted: The Hatelings seem to originate from negativity, but even as writing opinions change Heartless for outdated opinions continue to spawn.
  • Double Subverted: ...However it's eventually discovered the Hatelings are multiversal, thus once a opinion changes in all the multiverse Hatelings stop spawning.
  • Parodied: People's hate for the Hatelings cause them to spawn, their offspring personifying the hate shown towards their own species, which rapidly causes the Hatelings to spawn even more to personify their self-loathing. Thus the end result is a bunch of Hatelings literally drowning in their self-loathing, effectively making their species a non-issue.
  • Zig Zagged: Some Hatelings are clearly negativity personified, whilst others are just rampaging monsters.
  • Averted: Negative emotions simply don't form monstrosites.
  • Enforced: "We need to show the kids stealing and lying is wrong. Hey, why not make the monsters all personify these bad traits?"
  • Lampshaded: "Ah, of course the giant watery hydra is based on my fears of snakes and drowning. Here I thought it was a normal giant watery hydra..."
  • Invoked: Emperor Evulz decides the best minions are those sharing his beliefs, thus deliberately spawning Heartless to ally with.
  • Exploited: Emperor Evulz simply throws a town into panic, letting the Hatelings slaughter everyone for him.
  • Defied: The Troperian society preaches to themselves a culture of absolute tolerance so Heartless can never exist.
  • Discussed: "Heartless are such a horrible plague amongst our people." "You realize it isn't the Hatelings' fault right? They reflect our negativity, thus really ''we're'' the real plague."
  • Conversed: "Why do people even like basing monsters off their own negativity?" "Perhaps to warn others with a metaphor showing how dangerous those traits are?"
  • Implied: The Hatelings vaguely reflect negative opinions, though they also have a clear reproductive cycle.
  • Deconstructed: Since what's positive and what's negative are subjective concepts, many Hatelings are actually very nice creatures. However, since they represent hated traits, these innocent beings are indiscriminately slaughtered because the Troperians are ashamed of these ideals.
  • Reconstructed: Though positivity and negativity are subjective, all Hatelings are inherently malevolent even if they technically represent something positive since The Heartless itself is a negative expression.
  • Played For Laughs: Hatelings represent an individual entity's negative opinions, thus when presented before someone radically different, the Hatelings just comes off as ridiculous.
  • Played For Drama: The Hatelings fully embody the negativity they're formed from, thus even if spawn from someone with self control anyone can produce a Complete Monster.
