Basic Trope: A teacher and student get into a relationship.
- Straight: Bob is in a relationship with his teacher Alice.
- Exaggerated: Alice has a harem that consists of all of her students. (And yeah, that includes all the girls too.)
- Downplayed:
- Alice flirts with Bob, but their relationship doesn't go any farther.
- Bob is seeing Alice, the teacher's assistant.
- Justified:
- Teacher and student aren't actually in that much of an age gap; they're only a couple of years apart, and he didn't know he was dating his teacher until he went into class on the first day.
- Alice started teaching at a university after marrying Bob. When Bob seeks higher education himself, he ends up having his own wife as a professor.
- Inverted: Bob is taking college courses because his job demanded it, and Alice is younger than him.
- Subverted:
- Bob has feelings for Alice, but decides not to pursue a relationship.
- Bob is an adult only pretending to be a student with his wife Alice.
- Double Subverted:
- Only for Alice to discover Bob's crush and make the first move.
- Alice and Bob became a couple when he was a student. The fact that they roleplay shows he hasn't grown up since then.
- Parodied: Alice gets into a romantic relationship with her student Bob, who is a kindergartner.
- Zig Zagged: Bob is in love with his teacher Alice, but Alice doesn't want to pursue a relationship with him... because she doesn't want to get fired. They keep their feelings for each other on the down-low until Bob graduates, and only after a couple of months have passed do Alice and Bob date openly.
- Averted: Bob and Alice don't have romantic feelings for each other.
- Enforced:
- The writer had a crush on their teacher.
- The writer was a teacher, and had a crush on their student.
- Claudice, Alice's actor, is married to Derick, Bob's actor and the writers couldn't figure out how to fully hide this fact.
- Lampshaded: "Bob and Ms. Alice certainly spend a lot of time together. Do you think that there's... something going on between them?"
- Invoked: ???
- Exploited: Carla uses her knowledge of the two's feelings for each other as a bargaining chip for the both of them, and should she not get what she wants Bob could be suspended for inappropriate conduct with a teacher and Alice could be fired for her relationship with a student.
- Defied: Even though she likes him, Alice refuses to get into a relationship with Bob because she could lose her job and get into all sort of troubles.
- Discussed:Bob: "Alright, show of hands. Anybody here ever dreamed about dating their teacher? ... Whaddaya mean, I'm the only one holding it up?!"
- Conversed: "Oh no. They had a sexy pan up the teacher's body, and the characters on this show are only the people taking this particular class. Squicky shit is going down."
- Deconstructed:
- Alice's relationship with Bob gets Alice fired due to improper conduct.
- Alice is in a position of formal authority over Bob, making the entire relationship a big case of Questionable Consent.
- Reconstructed:
- Alice gets a teaching job in a country where teacher student relationship aren't as taboo.
- Bob and Alice bonded over commonalities, and Alice does something similar to a Jailbait Wait by waiting until she no longer holds any authority over him (after he graduates for instance), and is very clear on the fact that she is no longer in position of using her authority as a bargaining tool and goes the extra mile of getting him counseling to make absolutely sure that Bob won't feel pressured to bow to her whims out of subconscious fear or distrust of people in authority.
