Basic trope: Aliens that externally look human, but with some differences.
- Straight:
- Troperians look like humans except for having green or blue skin and Pointy Ears.
- Geshals, a sapient species from the planet Aria, look like humans, except for their Otherworldly Technicolour Hair, Technicolor Eyes, and pigmented nails.
- Exaggerated:
- Downplayed: Troperians look almost entirely human, except for having a slightly different facial structure.
- Justified:
- Troperians are a Human Subspecies, and they evolved their differences from ordinary humans as a result of the planet they live on.
- The planet Aria is similar to Earth, and as such, the creatures evolved somewhat similarly.
- Inverted: Starfish Aliens
- Subverted: ???
- Double Subverted: ???
- Parodied: ???
- Zigzagged: ???
- Averted: The aliens have no resemblance to humans whatsoever.
- Enforced:
- Making aliens look less human would be too expensive, but the work still wants to make it clear that the characters are aliens, so they add a few unusual features.
- The writer wanted to show that the alien characters aren't all that different from the Earthling characters, but still showing that they are still different.
- Lampshaded:
- "Aside from the colorful skin tones and pointy ears, Troperians look just like humans!"
- This exchange:
- Earth Human Girl: "You look like a weird-looking human."
- Aria Geshal Girl: "You look like a weird-looking geshal."
- Invoked: A Mad Scientist creates an alien race and intentionally makes sure that they look very humanlike.
- Defied: ???
- Discussed: ???
- Conversed:
- "Aliens in live-action tend to look like people with some unusual features. I bet it's due to budget restraints."
- "In that show, the geshals from Aria look a lot like humans, but still have some clear differences. I guess it's to show that they really aren't all that different from Earth humans."
