Basic Trope: A character separates an opponent from their weapon via the removal of limbs.

  • Straight: Bob and Emperor Evulz are swordfighting, and Evulz chops off the hand Bob is using to hold the blade.
  • Exaggerated: Evulz cuts off Bob's entire arm at the shoulder.
  • Downplayed: Evulz cuts off two of Bob's fingers, causing him to lose his grip on the sword.
  • Justified:
    • Evulz fights dirty.
    • Evulz only wants Bob incapacitated, not dead.
  • Inverted:
    • Evulz cuts off Bob's hand, revealing the hidden Arm Cannon that was otherwise blocked from firing.
    • A Combat Medic tries to reattach Bob's dismembered arm.
  • Subverted: Evulz attempts this, but Bob is wearing a gauntlet that prevents his hand from being cut off.
  • Double Subverted: Evulz swings higher and cuts it off at the unarmored elbow instead.
  • Parodied: Bob has no reaction to this. Bloody Hilarious hijinks ensue.
  • Zig-Zagged: Bob dodges Evulz' swing at his wrist. Then Evulz strikes a blow there but Bob's gauntlet deflects it. Evulz aims for one or more unarmored parts of Bob's arm afterwards.
  • Averted: Bob keeps all his limbs during this fight.
  • Enforced: ???
  • Lampshaded: Evulz does this and then cracks a joke about his "disarming" personality.
  • Invoked: Evulz decides to cut off his enemies' sword arms first to facilitate his victories.
  • Exploited: Bob uses the Arm Cannon example above to get the drop on Evulz.
  • Defied:
    • Bob sees what Evulz is about to do and dodges the attack, or wears armor like gauntlets to keep from losing his hand.
    • Evulz goes directly for the kill by decapitation and doesn't chop off Bob's arm.
  • Discussed: Bob asks Alice for information on how to get by with only one hand, fearing this could happen to him.
  • Conversed: "This is going to be Bob's greatest challenge."
  • Implied:
    • Bob had two arms before his battle (which happened offscreen) and has only one afterward.
    • Evulz has a trophy room full of the severed hands of previous opponents.
  • Played for Laughs: The show treats this occurrence as an Amusing Injury.
  • Played for Drama: Bob reacts to losing his arm the way anybody else would, and the setting lacks any sort of advanced healing or medicine which would be necessary to reverse the injury. Bob's one-armed for life even if he wins the battle with Evulz.
