Basic Trope: The game gives a proper reason in context to give a tutorial.

  • Straight: The plot of Troper Chronicles starts out with Jack training to become the Prince’s Lancer. The first section of the game has him learning the basics of combat, team support, stealth missions, calling out assassians, etc. before a Time Skip that shows Jack as a more experienced Lancer.
  • Exaggerated: a Prolonged Prologue that is justified, but takes up multiple initial play sessions as Jack learns the intricacies of spear fighting, sword fighting, cooking, military tactics, and spell casting. He meets many friends including Claudia, Xander, Drake, Marcy, and Hiro, the prince himself. All accompanied by a subplot having to do with catching out The Mole who may or may not be associated with the Big Bad
  • Downplayed: Jack walks in a generally experienced Lancer, but decides to attend a small refresher course with his old teacher who runs through basic combat, then summarizes everything else.
  • Justified: The game is in the POV of the protagonist.
  • Inverted: During Jack and co.’s final battle with Emperor Evulz, the game cuts to a tutorial attempting to teach you the basics of combat in your new form as if you couldn’t figure it out already.
  • Subverted: Protagonist of Troper Chronicles, Jack, is a former captain of the Prince's guard. Prologue of the game starts with him training his son, Hiro. His instructions are both aimed at the youngling, and the player.
  • Double Subverted: ???
  • Parodied: ???
  • Zig Zagged: As the game attempts to teach you things, sometimes it’s weaved into the plot, other times it isn’t.
  • Averted: The game puts the directions on how to do certain things in the game on the screen without any context.
  • Enforced: The publishers didn’t want to waste any money on a tutorial and made the developers include it in the plot.
  • Lampshaded: ???
  • Invoked: The developers wanted the players to feel like they were already experiencing the story from the start.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: A villain interrupts the tutorial midway and forces Jack (and the player) to learn the rest of the game by themselves.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: ???
