- Straight: Bob searches for the holy grail, after learning that drinking the water from it from it will make him immortal.
- Exaggerated:
- In addition to the holy grail, Bob seeks the philosopher's stone, and a few other artifacts that could make him immortal - at least one of them has to work.
- Bob seeks the holy grail, believing drinking from it will not just make him immortal, but indestructible, and grant him eternal youth.
- Downplayed: Bob works in medical research to prolong the human lifespan.
- Justified: Bob fears death.
- Inverted: Death Seeker
- Subverted: Though Bob seeks the holy grail, he doesn't want to drink from it and become immortal. He just knows he can make billions by selling it online.
- Double Subverted: But before selling it, might as well take a drink...
- Parodied: Whenever another character even mentions the vaguest rumor of a way he can become immortal, Bob's eyes light up, and he begins devoting years of his life to researching said rumor.
- Zig-Zagged: Bob finds the holy grail, but has an existential crisis as to whether to drink from it, or not.

- Eventually, after repeated failures to acquire the holy grail, Bob is forced to retire due to old age. In his age, he realizes that in his endless search for immortality, he lost so much of the life he had.
- Bob eventually finds the holy grail and becomes immortal, but it comes with consequences and he regrets ever searching for it.
- Played for Laughs: Bob comes up with ridiculous schemes to make himself immortal, most of which obviously have little to no chance of working.
- Played for Drama: When Bob finds the holy grail, he learns that he must sacrifice the life of someone he loves for the grail's immortality-granting liquid to work, and is struggling as to whether he can go through with it.
