Basic Trope: A character is made a monster by someone who is already a monster, and they hate them for changing them.
- Straight: The Count is a vampire and he turns Alice into a vampire. She hates him for forcing her to watch her friends and family grow old and die while she remains ageless.
- Exaggerated: Alice spends the entirety of her existence punishing the Count for turning her in the first place.
- Downplayed: Alice is rather cross with The Count for a while for turning her without her consent from forever being barred from the sun. She forgives him after her normal lifespan, which is considered a relatively short period of time by vampires.
- Justified: The Count turned her without her consent and only because he wanted to make her his plaything.
- Inverted:
- The Count hates himself for turning Alice, but she constantly reassures him that she likes it this way.
- Transhuman Treachery, Alice is not at all pissed at Dracula, just the opposite really.
- A Delicate and Sickly Alice eventually hates The Count for refusing to convert her into a vampire despite her numerous requests. She considers it an escape from mortality, he considers it Blessed with Suck and refuses to change anyone who lacks the proper "personality type" to cope with a very long unlife.
- Subverted: Alice and the Count have a grand old time together and travel the world for many happy years.
- Double Subverted: But then Alice goes home and realizes everyone she knows is dead and she never even said goodbye.
- Parodied: Alice hates the Count only because she has to buy so many outfits to keep up with the fashion trends over the millenia.
- Zig Zagged: Alice initially hates the Count, but then he grows on her until he does something insensitive and then she hates him again. This happens regularly every couple hundred years.
- Averted: The Count only turns Alice after he knows she has nothing left to lose and only with her full consent after being given time to weigh the risks and benefits.
- Enforced: The notion of hating and fighting against your creator has loads of religious symbolism that makes this seem very deep.
- Lampshaded: "I love you, Count." "I give it two hundred years tops."
- Invoked: The Count turns Alice after she's been happily married to Bob for eight years and has two kids.
- Exploited: Bob, who seeks to drive Alice and the Count against each other, goads (or forces) the Count into turning her in hopes that she reacts with hatred.
- Defied:
- The Count erases Alice's memory of her life before she was turned and never lets her leave the castle. She thinks the Count is the only other person in the world, so she misses nothing.
- Alternatively, Alice makes all her friends into vampires to ensure she has a happy eternity.
- Discussed: "Make me like you, Count." "Vy? Zo you can hate me for all eternity? No zank you."
- Conversed: "I'd hate that insensitive jerk too."
- Deconstructed: Alice hates the Count, but he explains to her that he's the only one who can sympathize with her and if she doesn't love him, she'll never be able to love anyone.
- Alice’s transformation was the only way to save her life and/or makes her stronger than before, yet Alice still hates the Count, making her come off as ungrateful for her new “gift”.
- Alice was in a relationship with the Count purely because he was a vampire. Now that she’s the same as him, she starts to look past that aspect of him and begins to see things she hates about him.
- Reconstructed: Alice still hates him and decides to remain loveless forever.
- Played For Laughs: Alice is turned by the Count. The ensuing relationship between them is similar to an exasperated teenage daughter and her obtuse and absent-minded father.
- Played For Drama: Alice's struggle to kill the Count and/or herself becomes the primary plot point of the series.
