Basic Trope: A female character who dislikes wearing dresses.

  • Straight: Alice dislikes wearing a dress for whatever reason.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Not only does Alice hate wearing dresses, but she hates every woman who wears dresses.
    • Alice systematically destroys every dress she comes across.
    • Alice, being a Shameless Fanservice Girl, hates wearing any kind of clothing.
  • Downplayed:
    • Alice doesn't hate dresses; she just prefers other options.
    • Alice dislikes dresses because her impressive height means that most of them don't fit her.
  • Justified:
    • Alice just doesn't like wearing a dress.
    • Alice's mother hated dresses and taught her to do so too.
    • Alice believes that Real Women Don't Wear Dresses.
    • Alice has social anxiety and dislikes the attention dresses bring to her.
    • Alice finds dresses impractical for her typical activities, such as finding that they easily get stuck on things.
    • Alice is transgender and can't find any dresses that don't give her dysphoria.
  • Inverted:
    • Alice hates pants but loves wearing dresses. Her wardrobe is almost entirely full of dresses.
    • Alan prefers wearing dresses and skirts.
  • Subverted: Alice starts out not liking wearing dresses but grows to like it.
  • Double Subverted: Alice only pretended to start liking dresses; she still doesn't like them.
  • Parodied: Alice starts planning dress-burning events and wishes to wipe all dresses from the face of the earth.
  • Zig-Zagged:
    • Alice's view on dresses changes on her mood.
    • Alice happily wears dresses to formal events, but dislikes doing so at anywhere else.
  • Averted: Alice has nothing against wearing dresses.
  • Enforced:
    • The author wants to avoid stereotyping and makes one of the female characters dislike wearing dresses.
    • The author believes that Real Women Don't Wear Dresses.
  • Lampshaded: "Huh, what does it take to get Alice into a dress?"
  • Invoked: Bob gives Alice an unflattering, uncomfortable dress. She hates the experience and swears off ever again wearing dresses.
  • Exploited: A stalker recognizes Alice because she's the only woman not wearing a dress at a formal event.
  • Defied: Even though she thinks she'll hate it, Alice makes herself wear a dress, and later decides it didn't feel as bad as she feared.
  • Discussed: ???
  • Conversed: "So, Alice, I've never seen you in a dress, but I know you own one. Is there a reason for that?"
  • Implied:
    • Alice gets a dress as a birthday gift, and she's shown putting it in a box and shoving that box into a dark corner in her closet.
    • Even at her own wedding, Alice is shown wearing a suit.
  • Deconstructed: Alice's refusal to wear a dress causes a rift between her and her conservative parents.
  • Reconstructed:
    • Alice deepens her relationship with her more progressive Family of Choice or even her extended family, which makes up for her falling out with her parents.
    • Alice's parents realize her fashion sense doesn't do them or her any harm, so they back off.
  • Played for Laughs: Alice goes into Comical Overreacting mode whenever she has to wear a dress.
  • Played for Drama:
    • Alice used to like dresses, until one day at work her boss took notice of her miniskirt and sexually assaulted her.
    • Alice once enjoyed dresses, but ended up getting seriously injured after tripping on a part of her dress and falling down the stairs, and now wearing dresses is a Trauma Button for her.
