- Downplayed: James gets slightly nervous when there's a girl around, but he can still manage to talk to them normally.

- For some reason James has never talked to a girl before.
- James is a Shrinking Violet.
- James has been bullied by girls in the past.
- James hates women so much to the point where he can’t talk to them at all.
- Inverted: Girls get nervous when talking to james.
- Gender-Inverted: Janice gets very nervous and/or tongue-tied when talking to a guy.
- James or Janice get nervous when talking to someone of their own gender.
- Subverted: James seems like he has trouble talking to women, but when he actually gets the chance to talk to a girl he seems totally fine.

- Whenever there is a girl within a fifty-foot radius of James, he visibly blushes and becomes unable to form a single coherent statement to anyone.
- James takes into account what gender the person identifies as; no matter how masculine they look, he suddenly shuts up if they identify as female, and no matter how feminine they look, he becomes more talkative if they identify as male. He follows the rule even with genderfluid people, alternating between being talkative and shy depending on how the person talking to him identifies that moment.
