Basic Trope: A character adores and admires their older brother.
- Straight: Alice dearly admires her older brother Bob and refuses to believe that he has any flaws.
- Exaggerated: Alice is really obsessed with Bob and won't shut up about how awesome he is. In fact, she doesn't talk about anything else. When Bob kills somebody, she still makes up justifications for him.
- Downplayed: Alice and Bob are close and she compliments him at times, but she acknowledges that he's not a flawless human being.
- Justified: Bob is protective of his younger sister and a good role model in general.
- Subverted: Alice is first seen gushing about Bob's virtues, but she was drunk when this happened. Once she sobers up, she clarifies that she was joking and considers him far from flawless.
- Double Subverted: ... Until the others actually meet Bob for the first time and Alice can't hide how awesome she actually considers him.
- Inverted:
- Alice hates her brother Bob and looks down at him, and lets everybody know how pathetic she finds him.
- Alice hates her brother Bob and has had a restraining order put on him, and lets everybody know how much of a horrific jerkass she finds him.
- Alice adores and admires her younger brother Bob.
- Gender-Inverted:
- Alice admires her older sister, Bonnie.
- Bob admires his older sister, Alice.
- Parodied: Bob gains a God-like status during the course of the story, and when a religion is formed around him, Alice becomes the head priest.
- Averted: Alice and Bob have a familial bond, but Alice is aware of his flaws.
- Enforced: The producers tell writers to give Alice this trait to make her more endearing to the target audience.
- Lampshaded: "Alice... you know nobody's perfect, right?"
- Implied: Bob never shows up in the series proper, but Alice mentions him a few times, always with a wide grin.
- Invoked:
- Bob wants Alice to think highly of him and therefore sets off to improve himself. It works a little too well.
- Alice and Bob's parents try their hardest to make sure the kids get along.
- Exploited: Someone who knows that Alice would do anything for Bob kidnaps him and offers to release him for a huge sum.
- Defied: Alice's parents sit her down and tell her that she shouldn't put people on pedestals because everyone has flaws, including her closest relatives. She takes the lesson to heart and starts seeing Bob in a more realistic light.
- Discussed: "Wow, Alice sure gets along well with her brother!"
- Conversed: "I doubt the script writer has any siblings... My bro would probably punch me if I started being that chipper around him."
- Deconstructed:
- Alice gushes so much about Bob that people assume something improper is going on between them. Whether the accusations are true or not, the siblings' bond is put under serious strain.
- Alice's unconditional admiration shows that she has a very childlike view on other people and/or relationships in general, which comes with its own set of problems.
- Alice idolizes Bob so much that she feels that she'll never measure up to him, and develops an Inferiority Superiority Complex.
- Played for Laughs: Whenever Bob brings home his partner, Alice goes into full Amazingly Embarrassing Parents-mode and tells the partner how lucky they are to have her brother.
- Played for Drama: Bob was executed several years ago for committing a terrible crime, and Alice is living in denial about what kind of person he was.
