Basic Trope: Villains disguised as clergy.

  • Straight: Alice dresses up as a nun to con Bob out of his money.
  • Exaggerated:
    • Alice is a supervillain, normally seen in a huge suit of power armour. When she dresses as a nun, she puts on a stereotypical nun's habit, complete with a wimple, and even wears a fake angel halo, but never takes off the power armour, which obviously bulges out underneath.
  • Downplayed: Alice claims to be a nun off-duty but isn't wearing a habit.
  • Justified:
    • Alice needs to break into a church or monastery and figures that people would be less suspicious of a nun being there at an unusual time.
    • A good con is all about fostering trust, and who'd doubt a nun?
  • Inverted:
    • Alice is a nun, but claims she isn't as some sort of plot to take Bob's money.
    • Alice dresses as a nun as some sort of plot to give Bob his money back.
  • Subverted:
    • It turns out that Alice really is a nun.
    • Alice dresses as a nun to con Bob out of his money... but it turns out that Bob had stolen the money.
  • Double Subverted:
  • Parodied: Alice's nun disguise is very obviously fake but Bob still falls for it.
  • Zigzagged:
    • It's unclear if it's just a disguise or Alice really is a nun; sometimes the evidence leans one way, sometimes the other.
    • Alice dresses as Bob to con him out of his money, but it turns out that she was doing it for the greater good because Bob stole that money, only she didn't know... but then she donates the stolen money to charity.
  • Averted: Alice does not dress as a nun.
  • Enforced: The series creators want to criticise a certain religion, but are stoppes by xecutive veto... So they settle for someone dressed up as a member of said religion instead.
  • Lampshaded: "We arrested those fake clergy... and nun too soon!"
  • Invoked: Charlie sells religious garb and encourages frauds to use it for nefarious purposes.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Alice refuses to dress up as clergy for her cons, settling with disguises of other professions instead.
  • Discussed: "What if she's not really a nun but she's in disguise?"
  • Conversed: "There's got to be more fake nuns than real nuns in fiction."
  • Implied: Some time before the villanous Alice character is properly introduced in the series, her actress is seen dressed up as a nun and acting suspiciously.
  • Deconstructed: ???
  • Reconstructed: ???
  • Played for Laughs:
    • Alice is a comedic villain and dressing as a nun is one of her wacky exploits.
    • Alice isn't the one dressed as a nun; her brother Alfred is, with fairly unconvincing results both in- and out of universe.
  • Played for Drama: After Bob finds out Alice is a fraud, he starts to suspect actual nuns of being frauds, which causes him to get in trouble.
  • Played for Horror: Alice is a demon disguised as a nun.
