Playing With / Anguished Declaration of Love

Go To

Basic Trope: A character declares their love for another, after much anguish.

  • Straight: After two seasons of UST, Alice declares her love for Bob.
  • Exaggerated: After five seasons, on her deathbed, Alive gives a Shakespearian speech declaring her love for Bob.
  • Downplayed: Alice declares her like for Bob.
  • Justified:
    • She loves himnote , damnit!
    • Alice was forced to hide her feelings for whatever reason and knows that the confession will have negative consequences, but does it anyway.
  • Inverted:
    • Cannot Spit It Out
    • Alice gives a difficult, dramatic speech declaring her hate for Bob.
    • Alice confesses her love in a mild-mannered way, and she starts dating Bob. But as the seasons go by, she realises that she does actually want to just be friends with him, or worse, that he is not worth friendship. After a long time of pretending that she's alright with their relationship, she finally breaks down and breaks up with him dramatically.
  • Subverted:
  • Double Subverted: …but then she grits her teeth and does tells him anyways.
  • Parodied: Alice gives a tearful, dramatic speech confessing her love for Bob… 5 minutes after meeting him.
  • Zig Zagged: ???
  • Averted: Alice doesn't tell Bob she loves him.
  • Enforced: "This UST is getting rediculous. Someone's got to man up and say it."
  • Lampshaded: "Oh Alice, that was so beautiful. It was like something out of a book."
  • Advertisement:
  • Invoked: Alice looks to her favorite literary characters for ways to tell Bob she loves him.
  • Exploited: ???
  • Defied: Alice either decides to confess as soon as she thinks she might like Bob, or keeps it a secret to her grave.
  • Discussed: "Alice, what if you told Bob you loved him? It would be awesome, like the season finale in a TV show!"
  • Conversed: "Finally! She told him!"
  • Played For Laughs:
    • Alice's confession is very awkwardly worded and Tsundere, leading to Bob thinking it's all Stealth Insults or focusing on the "you're so empty-headed..." when the full line was "you're so empty-headed... ''I can't stop staring at you!'".
    • Bob's reaction is just "freaking finally. I love you too."
  • Played For Drama: Alice confessed because she and/or Bob almost died recently, and she's afraid she won't get another chance.
