Season One: The Lightning Thief

I Accidentally Vaporize My Pre-Algebra Teacher
  • Alecto manifesting herself. As soon as Percy manifests his powers to get payback on Nancy Bobofit, Mrs. Dodds strolls out into the open... and then manifests in her full Fury (no pun intended). It does not help that unlike in the books, she has Telepathy, speaking to Percy without moving her lips in an unnerving way.
  • In a dream before waking up in the car with his mother, Percy is standing alone on the beach, in the rain no less, outside the house as he hears a voice calling out to him, who is Kronos, his malevolent grandfather and future arch-nemesis.
  • The Minotaur chase scene, and Percy looking absolutely terrified, like any kid his age would be in that situation.

We Visit the Garden Gnome Emporium
  • Medusa has an entire basement, lit only by torchlight, filled with her previous victims. Most of the statues' faces are in varying degrees of distress as they were turned to stone, making for a terrifying sight.
    • The details are what gets you: a female hiker frozen in mid-step, a sheriff with hands up holding a long-gone gun, and the clothing of others showing they've been around for ages.
    • Also, "basement" doesn't do it justice, this is the size of the warehouse from Raiders of the Lost Ark, and packed with hundreds, if not thousands of statues. Worse? There are also scores of crates (all marked "Fragile" of course), indicating there's even more statues Medusa has been having shipped to this address and just not unpacking yet.
    • Indeed, the idea the woman has been collecting these statues for centuries shows how far gone any humanity she once had is. She keeps all these petrified remains of innocent people around as trophies and seems to enjoy adding more to her collection.
    • It's also indicated Medusa has been selling off her statues to various collectors for tips. Just imagine how many museums, galleries, and houses are unknowingly displaying the petrified corpses of actual people around the world...
      • What's worse is that Olympus is one of her customers. The gods are knowingly buying statues of Medusa's petrified victims without a second thought.

    I Plunge to My Death
  • Athena allowing Echidna and the Chimera, who are pursuing the trio, to enter her sanctuary of the Gateway Arch (which is supposed to be a safe place where the monsters can’t enter) simply due to Percy mailing Medusa head back to Olympus.
    • Not only that, but by allowing this, Athena not only endangered three children (one of them being her own daughter), but also to their horror, all the unsuspecting tourists and staff. It really puts Medusa words about the gods having no accountability to themselves into perspective.
  • The Chimera herself is quite a piece of work once she finally fully appears onscreen in all her beastly glory. After at first only showing her tail, her mist induced chihuahua form, and a brief shot of her face that's obscured by how far away she is in the background, she finally comes fully into view at the top of the gateway arch, revealing herself to be a very pissed off looking scaly green and gray lioness with goat-like horns on her head, and with a predatory glare on her face indicating she's very much not in the mood to mess around. And in the last few moments to unfold as she and Percy stand facing each other before their short fight unfolds, she growls angrily while allowing a cobra-like hood to extend into full length upon the back of her head before then finally charging up her fiery breath, allowing Percy (who at this point is already weakened from her venom) just barely enough time to dodge before she lets loose.
  • If not for Poseidon's intervention, Percy would have been doomed as even without the drop the poison would have either killed him or weakened him enough for the Chimera to finish him off. Making them both the closest people to have succeeded in killing our hero so far.
  • Speaking of the drop, right before the appearance of the water spout that grabs Percy and carries him to the river, we get to see a brief sequence of Percy falling... from Percy's POV; which really puts it into perspective just how terrifying such a fall would be if you were in his shoes. And even before that, in the shots showcasing the hole that gets blown in the floor of the Gateway Arch's top room, clear emphasis is placed on how, unlike in the notorious case of Artistic License – Geography in the book where the Mississippi River was right underneath the Arch, there is solid ground that Percy would have definitely died from landing upon if it hadn't been for Poseidon's intervention while Percy was in the midst of falling.
  • It's subtle, but Echidna, when discussing how all of Greek mythology is one big family, mentions that her grandmother is the great-grandmother of the demigods. Book fans will know full well who she is...

    A God Buys Us Cheeseburgers
  • Despite seeming quite affable, Ares is a Mood-Swinger who can go from jovial to psycho.
  • The trap that Hephaestus sets. It's a take on the golden throne that ensnared Hera, and here it does so by forming a shell of gold around anyone who sits on it.
  • The appearance of the Fates. Three little old ladies dressed in colourful jumpsuits and crocs sitting on a bench knitting might not seem terrifying, but Annabeth is clearly freaked out of her mind on seeing them. Why? Because these three ladies control the birth, life and destiny of every living being — mortal, demigod, or god. Then one of them cuts the thread of wool another is holding out for her and Annabeth looks as though someone just walked over her grave... because the cutting of a string means that someone is going to die soon.

    The Prophecy Comes True
  • We finally get to see Zeus, King Of Olympus, and oh boy... his presence is as terrifying as the thunder he wields. Zeus coldly tells his nephew Percy that he's only still alive so that he could tell him about Kronos' return. And when Percy digs into his uncle's skin deeper by saying his fellow gods only follow him out of fear and not love nor respect, his death glare widens and he almost kills Percy with the Master Bolt, had it not been for Poseidon's interference.
  • Even after everything that has happened, Kronos continues to haunt Percy's dreams and in one particular dream about reuniting with Sally, he stands and glares at his grandson much more closely. He taunts his nemesis on his survival is the key to his own return... should he be able to survive what comes next.
