When it is revealed that the Sword of Souls can absorb and imprison evil souls, Frette questions why it hasn’t been used on the recurring threat of the Dragon Lord. Tina hastily claims that the Dragon Lord, the Big Bad ancient evil, hasn’t actually done anything to deserve that. In truth, it is because he used to be her player character until her actions caused Roland to declare an alignment change. It seems that Tina still has some attachment to the old boy.
Over the course of dealing with Bones Three-wood and Chartreuse LeChance, it becomes clear that they aren't just former crewmates, but lovers in turmoil. Over the course of the fight, you find out why Bones is waging such a grand assault on LeChance's ship; Bones is the reason they were cursed with undeath, and wanted to personally apologize and hope to make things right between them... and LeChance accepts gladly. One gets the feeling they would seal it with a kiss if they had lips.
Throughout the campaign, you find prophecies from "The Notetaker," who is voiced by the same actor as Roland from the previous games. Eventually it's revealed that it's actually Roland; these are notes that he gave Tina when he was running a game for her long ago. She still remembers the lessons he taught her.
