Heartwarming / The Knight Shift

Go To

Despite being (mostly) made of Nightmare Fuel and Mind Screw, The Knight Shift does have some heartwarming moments.

  • The guys singing along to "Sweet Dreams Are Made of This" in the car during the first episode (before things go south, anyway).
  • Knight's euphoria when he realizes he's figured out how the doors in the upstairs hallway work. In that moment, he genuinely believes he's figured out a way to escape— and you want to see him succeed.
  • Malek appearing and rescuing Ellpagg from the Infernous, just when he's reached his lowest point.
    • While the moment itself is mitigated somewhat by the fact that Malek's actually rescuing The Carver in disguise, he does return to rescue the real Ellpagg when he realizes his mistake.
    • Moreover, Malek's actions prove that he isn't a sinister Chaotic Evil figure (as he appears to be in ACFW), and actually leans more towards Chaotic Good.
  • Knight and The Carver sharing a plate of pizza rolls in the dining room of the Infernous is arguably the most heartwarming moment of the series. There's no lying, no manipulation, no pretense; just two guys who are currently trapped in a sort of Hell, comiserating on their circumstances and talking about how they might get out.
    • The mere fact that Carver calls Ellpagg "Knight", after so many eons of calling him by false names and mocking him by proclaiming that he's no longer a knight.
    • A later video in Season 2 of Solar's Crimson adds to this, revealing that Carver tried to protect Knight as the Infernous turned against him, warning Knight to avoid certain rooms in the House.
  • During Knight's confession at the start of "Paradise Lost", he reveals why he accepted the mission to go into the Infernous in the first place: he wanted his father, King Uriel, to be proud of him. Aww.
    • It also proves that despite his cockiness, he knew that he wasn't the best fighter and truly wanted to better and prove himself.
