• During the talent show in the first season, Kip performs a truly awful magic act during a sequence in which Jerri Manthey from Survivor was one of the judges and playing up her "bitch" persona. He has Matt as his subject for a card trick, and guesses the wrong card, but Matt nevertheless claims that it is the right card.
  Matt: (seeming perfectly sincere, smiling widely) That is the card! That is the card!
• The cast interviews in the final episode of the first season. Every single one of them talks about what an amazing guy Matt is and how, no matter what situation the show placed him in, he always, always did the right thing.
• As production of Season 1 went along, everyone in on the joke realized Matt was truly an upstanding person and became protective of him. By the halfway mark in production — after he became genuinely upset over seeing a friend "voted off" and then gave away a vacation package to a competitor^note a then unknown Kristen Wiig he accidentally injured — they retooled all their efforts to make sure Matt's positive qualities were highlighted and rigged games so he'd win so that the experience would be as pleasant as possible.
