Heartwarming / God of War - Not All Gods

Go To

In spite of all of what might be imagined from a God of War fanfic, not one drop of blood is spilt, and the story still tugs at the heartstrings in the best ways.

  • Palutena, when Pit brings Calliope to her, adopts the young girl, taking her in as a daughter. Already, emphasis is placed on the Goddess of Light's good nature.
  • When Calliope sees Palutena on the verge of Tears of Fear at the idea of confronting the Ghost of Sparta, she decides to play her flute for her, wanting to see the Goddess of Light smile again.
  • Palutena also shows that while she teases him, she does legitimately care for Pit, as when he readies for combat against Kratos, she outright begs him not to antagonize him.
  • Even Kratos finds it cruel that Pit can't use his wings, and respects Pit's willingness to fight to the death.
  • Calliope and Kratos's reunion. The fact that father and daughter thought they would never reunite again leads them to shed Tears of Joy as they embrace.
  • Calliope pleads with Kratos not to harm Palutena, revealing her experiences in Skyworld, and while he finds himself seeing Palutena as Athena, when he asks why she helped Calliope, Palutena simply reveals her reasoning: it was the right thing to do.
  • Palutena recognizes that Kratos is remorseful for his past, but when Kratos retorts that she cannot know him, she states that while she indeed does not know him, she knows that what the gods say about is only due to their fear of him, while she can see someone who made mistakes and wants to change, and someone who wants a future for him and his loved one. She ends by saying that Kratos is a man, not a monster. Most notably, Kratos is stunned, as it's the first time he's ever seen a god show concern for anyone, and especially someone like him.
  • While Kratos is stunned at Palutena's belief in him, she points out that he's already far better: he never killed an innocent, didn't attack unless provoked, and even helped people along the way. Kratos acknowledges that had his gods been like her, things would have been different.
  • When Kratos gets dragged back to Norway, Calliope pleads with him not to leave her again, but Kratos tells her that his journey is not for a pure soul like hers, and he asks Palutena to protect her in his stead and make sure that she's happy. The Goddess of Light simply smiles, telling him that she was always planning to do so anyway. Notably, Kratos truly believes in the words of a god for the first time.
  • After Kratos leaves, Calliope breaks down, sobbing into Palutena's chest. The Goddess Of Light strokes her head and suggests that perhaps one day, father and daughter will reunite once again.
  • When Kratos returns, he acknowledges that Atreus was right: not all gods are bad.
