Headscratchers / Wild at Heart

• The criminals that attack Sailor after he leaves Lula at the end of the film...who are they, what do they want, and how did they find him? No allusion is made to Marietta hiring them, they just appear out of nowhere, surround him for no reason, beat him up, and then leave him alone.
• What's with the old weirdo in the music club/bar with the pitch-shifted, squeaky voice?
• The film contains several obvious, lampshaded references to The Wizard of Oz, such as Marietta being the Wicked Witch of the West, and by clear implication, Lula is Dorothy while Santos and his thugs are the flying monkeys sent to capture Dorothy. However, who is:
  • The Scarecrow - Best guess is Johnny Farragut. Harry Dean Stanton looks like a scarecrow, and the character isn't very bright
  • The Tin Man - ??
  • The Cowardly Lion - ??
  • The Wizard - Is it Peru with his empty promises?
  • Toto - is it 00 Spool who obsesses over his dog and imitates his bark?
  • Or does Sailor represent a composite of all of Dorothy's companions - Toto's loyalty, the Scarecrow's lack of intelligence, the Tinman's need for a heart (compassion), and the Cowardly Lion's need for courage (taking responsibility for one's life and actions rather than running away)?
