  • Is there any specific reason why Zero wasn't shot alongside Gustave in the end?
    • He didn't insult or threaten them, and actually seemed willing to go along with them until Gustave stepped in.
  • How exactly did Jopling get away with Kovacs' murder, anyway? Surely the guard at the front entrance would have seen him walk past as he was following Kovacs and be able to put two and two together.
    • Presumably the guard was afraid of retribution if he told his superiors.
    • Jopling was almost caught by Inspector Henckles. Kovacs's body was found stuffed in a sarcophagus days later. In the jail, Inspector Henckles quickly interrogates Jopling as he passes by, asking what he knows of the murder. This is a clever trap that detectives set. The public only knows that Kovacs's is missing, not dead. If Jopling mentioned anything about murder, there would have been enough suspicion to bring him in. Unfortunately, Jopling is more cunning and responds that he knows of Kovacs's disappearance and Inspector Henckles lets him go.
  • Inspector Henckels wears the Fascist stand-in Zig-Zag Movement patch and outfit, but displays a far more open-minded aspect than A Nazi by Any Other Name normally does - especially considering a bunch of them murder Gustave and obviously don't respect refugee Zero at the end. Perhaps Henckels is an In Name Only example and wears it for convenience but doesn't actually follow the main party beliefs?
