Headscratchers pages are Spoilers Off. You Have Been Warned.

  • So who's running Grizzco after Mr. Grizz's defeat? It's possible it'd still exist: Salmonids still pose a threat to the surface-dwellers and Golden Eggs may have uses outside of making Fuzzy Ooze, but aside from the shape of the radio changing, we never get any indication of who's running the show now that Mr. Grizz is gone.
    • It has been mentioned in interviews that the Mr. Grizz we talk to for Salmon Runs is simply a bunch of recordings made using a text to speech program, and that he is likely not actually overseeing the Runs personally.
    • Given the fact that Lil' Judd gains a headset after the events of story mode, it's implied he's the one who has taken over the company, and is using the statue to impersonate Grizz.
  • Why's everyone using flip phones now when Splatoon 2 had modern-looking smartphones in it?
    • Retro swag?
    • Fliphones never went out of style in Japan, to the point that their flip phones contain most of the same chipsets and computing power as smartphones albeit without the touchscreens. Could just be a case of art imitating life due to most of Splatoon's diehard fans being in Japan and Nintendo being a Japanese company.
    • It could also be the latest trend in Splatsville. You have to remember that Inkling society is obsessed with being trendy. Murch himself still has his old smartphone from Splatoon 2. meaning they're still around.
  • How did Mr. Grizz form Grizzco without anyone seeing him. Being a bear, society would likely be shocked by his appearance, so he kept his identity secret. So, how was he able to form a business while being hidden?
    • Could've been an existing company that he hijacked somehow.
    • Probably timing. He likely came in right in the midst of a power crisis, with the knowledge of how to stop it, and people weren't keen on looking a gift horse in the mouth by pressing him on info. Alternatively, he isn't the ONLY shady business dealer who prefers to keep their identity private, and people know that those who actually digs deep enough don't come back out.
    • If Li'l Judd took over Grizzco Industries after story campaign, who isn't to say that Li'l Judd helped Mr. Grizz establish Grizzco Industries and dealt with the legal business of representing Mr. Grizz?
    • He possibly formed the company online. Supplemental information states Grizzco does have a registered headquarters, but the building itself is empty. He likely used the buildings address to establish the company online, and slowly built it up from there.
  • Why does Deep Cut not know who Mr. Grizz is despite them all knowing what Salmon Run is, and having TAKEN jobs on Salmon Run?
    • Considering that Mr. Grizz communicates through a radio, Deep Cut most likely know him by voice. They probably didn't expect that Mr. Grizz actually is a bear.
  • After Mr. Grizz's rocket blew up with the Great Zapfish still on board, how the hell was it safely transported back to Splatsville?
    • Possibly it wasn't part of the main rocket, just the booster system meant to help it reach orbit. Once there, the boosters with the zapfish inside detached, and it eventually makes its way back to Earth.
  • Are the Judds immune to the fuzzy ooze? The ooze turns things into mammals and the cats are already that, so would they just be unaffected?
    • Probably.
  • So Mr. Grizz decided to go through with his plans because he couldn't find any other mammals when he returned to Earth. Given that he hires Inklings and Octolings to work for him, you'd think he'd know about the Judds, and even if he's ignoring them because (as far as we know) there aren't any female cats around to continue the lineage (despite the Sunken Scrolls showing that Judd Sr.'d been active since the Inkling/Octoling equivalent of ancient Egypt and thus being extremely long-lived if not immortal and the need for reproduction likely not being that important), Marina once mentioned her landlord being a narwhal, a type of mammal. Now, this narwhal might be the last of their kind, but we don't know that for certain. You'd think at some point Mr. Grizz would notice the Judds and/or the narwhal(s) and think "wait, there are still mammals here, I don't need to try turning nonmammals into mammals," but no.
    • Given Lil' Judd is implied to be the new head of Grizzco, it does imply he may have encountered them before. Even then, they're pretty much all there is when it comes to mammals. Even if narwhals and other mammalian sealife can be counted, they would still be in the minority. Mr. Grizz's speech seems to imply he's more upset about the change in the status quo, and he wants to fulfill the Ark Polaris' mission of recreating the world before its extinction by reversing the change.
  • How is Lil' Judd still a kitten after five years having passed since Splatoon 2?
    • Judd was injected with an immortality drug before being put in his cryogenic tube. It's likely that it managed to carry over into Lil' Judd when he was cloned from the genetic material left over inside.
  • How did Mr. Grizz launch a rocket in an underground dome!? And how did none of Splatsville's residents see it lift off?
    • You forget that underground dome that is Alterna is huge. The main reason why the first rocket launch that killed the humans failed is because of a reaction with the liquid crystals that lined the walls. With most of them already destroyed, it was safe for Grizz to do his second attempt.
    • And as for why no one noticed a huge ass rocket escaping the Crater: the same reason nobody noticed the NILS statue popping up in Octo Expansion, the inklings are stupid.
  • The main standout feature of the Crater is the long decayed remains of the Eiffel Tower. A good reminder of the post-apocalyptic nature of Splatoon... but also confusing, because the region that Inkopolis and Splatsville is set in is what used to be Japan. How the hell did a european monument end up all the way over there?
    • It's possible the structure seen in The Crater is actually the main building in Booyah Base, located in Inkopolis Plaza. As for the reason why it's there? That remains to be determined.
    • It's also worth noting that the structure is more likely based on the Tokyo Tower in Tokyo, Japan than it is the Eiffel Tower, though they do look very similar.
    • After some research with the currently provided map of Inkadia, it appears that whatever it is that created Octo Canyon (which seems to be geographically located where Tokyo used to be]] may have been responsible for launching the tower all the way to the Crater.
    • Given that Inkopolis is at least near present-day Japan (since Off The Hook met on Mt. Nantai), and a canonical map establishes that Splatsville is just across a large body of water from Inkopolis, it seems more likely the structure is not the Eiffel Tower. It also isn't Tokyo Tower, since Tokyo Tower does not quite look that way on its base. The more likely answer is that it is the replica of the Eiffel Tower built in Tianducheng, China.
      • Besides, the Tokyo Tower is now Inkopolis Tower, isn't it?
    • The Japanese version of Sunken Scroll 2 states that Deep Cut's family clans drained the flood waters away by creating a whirlpool. Chances are this ended up dragging the remains of the tower over to the Splatlands.
  • When you shoot Callie and Cuttlefish, they are completely covered in the ink. However, when you ink Captain 3, their tentacles are only partially covered. Why are their tentacles more resistant to ink? Were they always resistant to foreign ink, or did it develop after consistently fighting other octolings/inklings?
    • Probably the latter. If you look closely at Captain 3's tentacle, you'll notice they are scarred, implying they've more or less been active in the field their entire time as Agent 3 before they became Captain. Cuttlefish is retired, so he hasn't been in the field for decades, while Callie and Marie don't seem to go into the field nearly as often by virtue of their celebrity status.
  • How did the Fuzzy Octarians (and particularly the Fuzzy enemy Octolings) get converted by the Fuzzy Ooze into what are essentially hairy versions of their original selves, when it turns the playable characters (and as seen in the final boss failure cutscene, various others) into immobile fuzzballs?
    • According to a Famitsu interview, the fuzzified Octarians are in the second stage of being mammalized, implying what happens to the player character is simply them being encased in a fuzzy cocoon. They would eventually come out in the same state as the Octarians after a while.
  • With the Octarian armada having either defected or been mamalized, what has that done for their trade deal with the Salmonids? Its been made clear in the Salmonid Field Guide that most of their more advanced weapons are obtained from the Octarians, but now that they're essentially gone, how are they keeping themselves supplied?
    • The Salmonids seem to have become self-sufficient. Perhaps all they needed was some advanced technology to reverse-engineer, and they could take it from there. The Grizzco handbook's Boss Salmonid descriptions mention Salmonid engineers, and the book reads as if the Salmonids build nearly all of their own machinery for those Boss Salmonids. An alternative is that they've found another, currently unknown race to trade with.
  • Who owns Gone Fission Hydroplant? It's a power plant smack dab in the middle of Salmonid territory, but is it owned by the Inklings, or is it owned by the Salmonids?
    • My guess is that it was an Inkling installation that was abandoned after the Salmonids took it over.
