  • While Hector and Imelda's reunion was mostly a Heartwarming moment, it does inspire Hector to add some new lyrics to an old favorite . . .
    You say "Smash your guitar!"
Ay mi amor, ay mi amor!
But then you change your mind
Ay mi amor, Ay mi amor!
    You nearly broke my nose
Ay mi amor, Ay mi amor!
It doesn't need to get any bigger
Ay mi amor, ay mi ammooorrrr…..
  • The reactions to Hector and Imelda's "welcome back" song, from Coco's obliviousness to Felipe and Oscar’s utter horror. Notably, Hector does a Spit Take in the morning when Coco asks him about his 'new song'.
  • Imelda, reflecting on opening a business and the motives behind it reflects that she never felt so satisfied to have one at last....and so frustrated and annoyed because of the demands of actually running it.
  • When the Rivera's get their first customer, they make a big show of it and even pull out a banner, and after Imelda tells the twins that the show was just for their first customer, the twins are extremely disappointed over the fact they made that banner, just so they could use it once
  • When Hector learns that Imelda is having twins, he accuses Oscar and Felipe of "infecting" her with "doubleness."
  • Hector's brief stint in insomnia trying to care for his twins. He's sleep deprived, dissheveled, but the funniest part is that while tending for the babies he wrote some music. Only it's a mess with poor melodies, nonsense topics, and one that's just an essay on the Mexican Revolution.
  • Ernesto's deep voice puts Matty to sleep. Shocking Hector so much it was as if, "the machine of Hector gave a few stuttering gasps, then collapsed."
  • Coco brings home Leti and Matty's homework just as they were claiming they did go to school. Leaving them with disappointed parents, and deer in the headlight expressions.
  • Apparently when Leti went to the land of the dead, the elephant she liked there Fraggipani came with her. Leading to an astonished Ernesto asking, "How do you lose an Elephant??"
  • When Coco slaps a suitor with her shoe, her family has a range of reactions. Hector is shocked, Mateo is impressed, Rosita is surprised, and Imelda just pumps a fist in the air in support.
  • Hector laughing his ass off at the sight of Ernesto dressed as a priest and flying in the air for one of his movies. Ernesto is not amused by this. And when Ernesto has enough and asks to be put down, he is unable to stand up because his legs fell asleep after being suspended up for too long.
  • When Coco is about to give birth to Victoria, the Riveras have to abruptly cut short their performance. An audience member asks about Ernesto’s performance, and Ernesto’s exit method is hilarious.
Ernesto: Remember meeeee, though I have to say goodbye— Ok goodbye!
  • Matty returns from the war engaged to an American nurse who he met while serving as her interpreter. Hector accidentally reveals something uncomplimentary Matty wrote about her in a letter after their less than ideal first meeting.
Now that was strange. In all the letters that Matty had sent him over the years, not once did he mention a girl as sweet as Wanda. Mostly they were talks of his travels, the friends he had made, complaining about weather and food, as well as dealing with a shrill and demanding harpy of a woman who exploited him for her own needs - Oh! "This is the harpy?!" Héctor exclaimed as he pointed at Wanda. In English. Matty's face lost all color in an instant and he made a painful choking noise before glancing frantically at Wanda, who for her part was smirking with a raised brow.
  • Elena grows up under the music ban, and when Miguel gives the same line about "I don't care if I'm on some stupid Offrenda", Elena tries to break his guitar again. Only, in this reality, Elena is younger than Miguel. And without the strength of an adult, all she can do is hopelessly beat it against the floor without doing any damage.
  • Facundo's reaction to finding his daughter (who's seen as an Old Maid In-Universe) having sex with a friend of Mateo (and how the kids who respond to his scream mistake it for a wrestling match) goes from angry, to happy, to speaking to his long dead wife.
Rosita: Papá, stop! He loves me and I love him. He asked me to marry him and I said yes.
Facundo: -beautiful, thoughtful blessing in disguise. Come here, mi hijo. Ay, you beautiful, beautiful man. Thank you for making my dreams come true! Did you hear that Vicky? Our Rosita is to be wed. You can now rest in peace.
  • Rosita apparently was quite ready to be married, as after the timeskip, we find out they now have a HUGE family, with a regular pregnancy every year or so. So much so, that Miguel even jokes they can set their clocks to it.
  • In the author's notes on archive of our own, after Hector messes things up with his family, the author teasingly calls him being sent to the land of the dead as his timeout corner.
  • When Hector is first cursed, he finds himself surrounded by skeletons. He's scared out of mind over what these skeletons want from him as they move in closer. Turns out all they want is his autograph.
  • When Gaspar meets Hector for the first time, he gives him a slap for getting Imelda pregnant before getting married. Then when his wife tries to get him to back down, she ends up giving hector a hit too when he accidentally calls Coco an accident.
Mirasol: Oh, we are not making a good first impression, are we?
  • Hector learns that he was named after his mother's pet pig. His mother also casually notes that she wishes that pig could be her alebrije, but his spirit apparently holds a justifiable grudge against the family for eventually eating him.
  • Hector's attempts to get his hands off of Ernesto's guitar end in him getting knocked out by it.
